Fresh Nomination!

Tracks are up. And I humbly think that this milestone deserves a forum-wide announcement :)
Maybe even CNN coverage, if they weren't busy bitching about some election or something. |
Opening - More like SLOWPENING LOL. It's a nice tune, but it's pretty forgettable.
Surrounded by Smiles -ordinary- - Starts off really weird, but then gets kinda nice, with some cool piano parts and some weird, minimalist backing. Feels like the kind of song that would grow on me with repeated listens. Right Way (Dansaiver) - Kind of an inspirational, rockin' song. Sounds like a mix between battle music and character theme, which is pretty neat. Historic Soldier (Naming BGM) - Not bad, but that whistling is really grating - and I can handle even the shrillest of chiptunes. Thankfully it's not throughout all of the song, and the rest of it is pleasant and enjoyable. GALACTIC RULER (Final Stage ~ Last Boss) - Eh, pretty forgettable. I kind of forgot I was listening to it about halfway through. >_> The Village Where They Arrived One Day - Sounds like Iwadare, whom I'm definitely not a fan of. Very saccharine, though it i admittedly soothing. Title - An awesome chiptune here with a fantastic melody. It's pretty funky too - I'd love to hear a remix of this one. I'd give it top points even if it weren't my nom. Curious to see what others think. Prime's Theme - Well, this is pretty cool. Nice beat, and OH GOD VOCALS WHAT IS THIS 3 points: Title 2 points: Right Way 1 point: Surrounded by Smiles |
A big thank you to all SotW staff for doing a good job running the contest and giving members like me something to look forward to every week! Without you, SotW wouldn't be possible.

Thank you to everyone who's been a part of this contest, running it or voting in it (SotW lifers forever, yo). Each week has been a consistent source of new and enjoyable music and that's thanks to efforts of everyone involved.
Too bad this week wasn't so hot. Even the top song was decent, not great. Whoa, the cosmic vibes of Cosmic Fantasy Stories (Game Rip) - Opening are pretty acute and sweet. x] The melody is, on the whole, a bit lame; but the drive and starry atmosphere is really entertaining. A keeper.
Ack! eleison - Surrounded by Smiles -ordinary- is so ridiculously saccharine! :) Well, at least the first half is. Things progress nicely throughout, and while the cute little bloops are enchanting, they don't really add to the whole experience. An exceptionally nice, albeit somewhat unsubstantial, listen. Fuujin Ryouiki Eretzvaju Original Soundtrack - Right Way [Danzaiver] is a fairly run-of-the-mill rock tune to my ears. Some of the riffs were notable, but I wasn't really engaged for the most-part. For a MIDI Power piece, MIDI Power ver.2.0 X68000 Collection - Historic Soldier (Naming BGM) is pretty damn chilled. lololol" I don't know why I'm liking it so much. I guess it's because the instrumentation is laidback and beachy, and the succint developments really hit the nail right on the head. Quite nice~ Pulstar - GALACTIC RULER (Final Stage ~ Last Boss) was kind of similar to the first track in terms of spacey tone and drive, though this one pretty much falls flat (particularly in comparison). The melodies are quasi-tense and predictable, and make the track quite irritating towards the end. soz nomz dude~ THE LEGEND OF HEROES IV "A Tear of Vermilion" ORIGINAL SOUND TRACK - The Village Where They Arrived One Day is nice. (There's seriously nothing more or less I can say about this track) Hulsbeck sure knows how to compose a good chiptune, huh? R-Type (C64 Game Rip) - Title contains some wonderful melodies and a really great structure. Epic-chiptune-title themes are numerous, so this one doesn't stick out too greatly for me. But still, it's a rather catchy little number; I'll definitely be revisiting it. ..................................wait, what the hell was that? :tpg::o:tpg: Ultraverse Prime (Red Book Audio) - Prime's Theme is awesome for all the wrong reasons. oh gawd what the hell's with that piercing ending, it's so awesome for some reason cosmic POINTs, the size of METEORS 2 points: eleison - Surrounded by Smiles -ordinary- 1 point: R-Type (C64 Game Rip) - Title 1 point: Ultraverse Prime (Red Book Audio) - Prime's Theme 1 point: Cosmic Fantasy Stories (Game Rip) - Opening 1 point: MIDI Power ver.2.0 X68000 Collection - Historic Soldier (Naming BGM) 6th: THE LEGEND OF HEROES IV "A Tear of Vermilion" ORIGINAL SOUND TRACK - The Village Where They Arrived One Day 7th: Fuujin Ryouiki Eretzvaju Original Soundtrack - Right Way [Danzaiver] 8th: Pulstar - GALACTIC RULER (Final Stage ~ Last Boss) Really nice week, IMO! Cosmic Fantasy Stories (Game Rip) - Opening The quality of this rip is really atrocious, which is too bad because the music is quite good, with nice drive and melody. Someone over at OCR ought to get busy on a decent-sounding remix.
eleison - Surrounded by Smiles -ordinary- As I've come to expect from noms of this ilk, this tune is both completely unique and completely bizarre. The beginning especially, which moves from ambient SFX to bloopy synth, is just flat-out weird. Things get a bit more traditional later on, but the music is a little too strange to come back to very often. Fuujin Ryouiki Eretzvaju Original Soundtrack - Right Way [Danzaiver] A nice little brass-led action track. It doesn't really do anything out of the ordinary; I liked the way that it combined brass and timpani with the usual synthy accoutrements and didn't much care for the thrashing. MIDI Power ver.2.0 X68000 Collection - Historic Soldier (Naming BGM) Whistley synth! That's a neat effect when it's used right, and the rest of this song is pretty good as well. But what's with the sudden fadeout, seemingly right in the middle of the dang song? Pulstar - GALACTIC RULER (Final Stage ~ Last Boss) An interesting sound to this one, spacey and slightly out of tune (but deliberately so). One minute I think it's a terrific sound; the next it seems like so much musical mush. But on the whole, I get a positive impression. THE LEGEND OF HEROES IV "A Tear of Vermilion" ORIGINAL SOUND TRACK - The Village Where They Arrived One Day This does sound very much like a village theme, and has the appropriate warm and melodic sound. Not the most stunning example of its kind, perhaps, but it gets the job done. R-Type (C64 Game Rip) - Title This has definitely got that distinctive C64 sound to it. I've never really liked that sound too much; perhaps it's a generational thing. Ultraverse Prime (Red Book Audio) - Prime's Theme Hahaha, this is hilarious! So earnest and yet so unbearably cheesy because of it. Sounds like the theme from a 1980's Saturday morning cartoon more than anything. So bad it's good. Not the best week in living memory, but a fitting slice of life for Week 150. SHOTGUN ATTACK! The Point Spread 1 point each to: Opening Right Way Historic Soldier Pulstar The Village Prime's Theme |

Man, so close. Can't really complain about coming in second to an awesome SIDtune, though.
