Can blue ray rips be played in dvd player?

For Example, the movie below

Patton

Patton (1970) 720p.BluRay.DTS.x264-ESiR | Patton | isoHunt - the BitTorrent and P2P search engine

Directory: Patton (1970) 720p.BluRay.DTS.x264-ESiR

Files:
Patton (1970) 720p.BluRay.DTS.x264-ESiR.mkv 7.9 GB
Patton (1970) 720p.BluRay.DTS.x264-ESiR.nfo 6.1 KB
SAMPLE / Patton.1970.720p.BluRay.DTS.x264-ESiR.mkv 57.7 MB

Can the file above play on a my regular dvd player?
Since the file is under 8 gb, can I burn this to a DL dvd?

Thanks

All that matters to your dvd player is the format the movie is, not how good it looks.

With that said you can either convert it to dvd format, or if your player supports it, to a divx/xvid or h.264 encoded file.

some newer players allow for h.264 (which is how your video is encoded, it appears) but I don't think many of them support Matroska, which seems to be the "container" your file is in. I recommend converting it (preferably h.264) and burning it to a DL-DVD.

So find a way to convert, and you're golden.

Keep in mind that there is not only "one" H264: There are multiple levels and profiles. which the player has to support.
