Question: How long is the time period from when an album is released to when you can nominate a track from it? Because there's a track I wouldn't mind nominating from an album released (officially) on September 26...=/

Didn't we agree that three months was a fair statute?
|
I looked through the SotW wiki and didn't find anything about it, but now that you mention it 3 months does ring a bell. In any case, here's an alternative nomination:
Nomination #8 Composer: Angel Note Album Title: Aozora Magiccer!! Original Soundtrack Track Title: Run Through the Forest Track Number: 3 Year: 2006 Catalog Number: STEG-06023 Run |
Just wondering... Would the following nomination be allowed?
Artist: O-GATA Album Title: Super Mega Drive Fan - Mega Drive Super Music Collection Vol.2 Track Title: AFTER-6290 MIX [Sonic the Hedgehog CD] Disc Number: 1 (of 1) Track Number: 2 Catalog Number: TIM-SMD02 Year: 1993 Source: TIM-SMD02: Super Mega Drive Fan - Mega Drive Super Music Collection... - VGMdb Votes: (3 points) Sonic the Hedgehog Remix - Dr.'Gigglymen' (2 points) Tobi Tsukihime Soundtrack - MAGICAL AMBER (1 point) Bike Banditz Original Sound Track - eXceptional eXploration (Stage 1) |
This is a letdown week. Most of the tracks are closely packed, no standouts and none that are truly wretched. I couldn't find one that I excessively enjoyed.

Age of Mythology Original Soundtrack - Hoping for Real Betterness I've never been the biggest fan of Age of Blank, but this tune has a nice sound. It's a little sparse in places, but generally pleasant (and the vibraphone is terrific). Axelay - Mother (3st BGM) Definite SNES-era vibe here, but it doesn't quite live up to the lofty standards of that generation. As a rather disposable piece of jazziness it's good, but there are still some pretty big dry spots and the melodic parts are undermixed when compared to the oppressive drums. Bike Banditz Original Sound Track - eXceptional eXploration (Stage 1) Replacing S's with Z's and capitalizing X's is definitely eXtreme to the maxx in a 1997 sort of way. My expectations were pretty low because of that, but I was pleasantly surprised; it's got its rough edges, but the jazzy synth on display here is quite fetching. Eternity's Child - The Official Soundtrack - Crystal Waterfalls I love the airy, light sound of this piece. It's got a very delicate texture and melody, with a little bombast and kookiness thrown in for good measure, but the slight melancholy is what really sells me on it. Sonic the Hedgehog Remix - Dr.'Gigglymen' The electronically enhanced scat singing in this piece is interesting, and it definitely has funky attitude to spare. But I can't see myself listening to it again anytime soon; it's the sort of thing that functions best in small doses. Super R-Type (Game Rip) - As Wet as a Fish Very flat and kind of dull overall. Part of that's the weak synth, and part's the sparse composition. The piano melody was good when it showed up, which unfortunately wasn't often enough. Tobi Tsukihime Soundtrack - MAGICAL AMBER The rising and falling synth figure reminded me of a certain famous VGM composition, and the rest of the track benefits from a solid melody and energetic performance. Quite good! Zeliard (PC Game Rip) - Tumba Town Another rather flat track, with a lot of the same problems as R-Type. That repeating background figure in particular drove me to distraction. A good week overall, though a couple of outright duds do lower the overall level of quality from last week and the week before. The Point Spread Crystal Waterfalls - 3 pts. Magical Amber - 2 pts. Exceptional Exploration - 1 pt. |
(3 points) - As Wet as a Fish
(2 points) - Hoping for real betterness (1 point) - Mother ---------------- Not a hard week to decide on, truthfully. Though I suppose having a nomination helps. Even in the face of the quintessential, unfunny white boy. |
(3 pts) Age of Mythology OST - Hoping for Real Betterness
(2 pts) Sonic the Hedgehog remix - Dr 'Gigglymen' (1 pt) Eternity's Child - The OST - Crystal Waterfalls Man, that Age of Mythology song brings back sooo many good memories... "Come on, Giant Troll Titan! Crush him!!" Ah, those good old days... nevertheless, it's still a good song, though. |
I was just listening to the AoM soundtrack the other day, and damn did I enjoy it (especially the organic/primitive sounding ones). Age of Mythology Original Soundtrack - Hoping for Real Betterness wasn't a standout like "Chocolate Outline" or "Eat Your Potatoes", but I still consider it a very solid track. The acoustic work in particular is great.
(3st, whoo!) Axelay - Mother (3st BGM) has some pretty interesting percussion, but the melody was way too weak. I was also pretty annoyed by the section near the end. =/ But yeah, I definitely think the percussion regains some lost ground. Bike Banditz Original Sound Track - eXceptional eXploration (Stage 1) is pretty enjoyable; nice and upbeat, with some nice bass licks. I think that the melody was pretty good; the piece just sort of zoomed by. But it was a very fun zoom. :) Eternity's Child - The Official Soundtrack - Crystal Waterfalls was very pleasant. At first I was reminded of a bustling town theme like rabanastre or something, then things were toned down and the orchestration became a tad more profound. Those uplifting parts like 0:36 are wonderful, too, by the way. I'm usually really into out-there creations like Sonic the Hedgehog Remix - Dr.'Gigglymen', but for the most part I just didn't get it. :( Putting the weirdness aside, the music was pretty decent. Some of the sax/whatever it is spots...really hit the spot, yeah. Nothing outstanding, nothing too heinous. I really enjoyed the start to Super R-Type (Game Rip) - As Wet as a Fish, and things remained steadily cool from there. Nothing really stepped out of the boundaries or wowed me, but it was still OK. Tobi Tsukihime Soundtrack - MAGICAL AMBER was sort of like the eXceptional track; fun and upbeat, but things really zoomed by for me. A very fleeting listen, although I did like the fun, melodic drive present. B-! ...well that was rather depressing, wasn't it? :( Zeliard (PC Game Rip) - Tumba Town didn't do anything for me whatsoever, sorry nom. Additionally, the atmosphere created is really kind of draining. I think it needed more of a ZOOM effect. *ZOOM* hay was that a POINT that just went by? 3 points: Eternity's Child - The Official Soundtrack - Crystal Waterfalls 2 points: Age of Mythology Original Soundtrack - Hoping for Real Betterness 1 point: Bike Banditz Original Sound Track - eXceptional eXploration (Stage 1) 4th: Tobi Tsukihime Soundtrack - MAGICAL AMBER 5th: Super R-Type (Game Rip) - As Wet as a Fish 6th: Sonic the Hedgehog Remix - Dr.'Gigglymen' 7th: Axelay - Mother (3st BGM) 8th: Zeliard (PC Game Rip) - Tumba Town Fairly below-average week. I made one really good discovery though, so I'm happy. :) |
Not much to like concerning this week, but what I actually do is exceptionally good and makes for an easy point spread.

Age of Mythology Original Soundtrack - Hoping for Real Betterness
Could be indeed better, but this is already very good. Nostalgia + one of my favorite soundtracks = will get points. Axelay - Mother (3st BGM) Axelay has a quite interesting soundtrack. "Mother" is not the best track from it in my opinion, but it's still solid. The rhythm section is great and sounds deep for the SNES. The melody is OK, but it could have been more elaborated and punchy. Bike Banditz Original Sound Track - eXceptional eXploration (Stage 1) After hearing the beginning, I took out a slice of bread, ready to spread the track's cheese over it. Expecting Cheez Whiz from the title, I then realized, with delight, that it is actually a more refined type of this dairy product. Tasted good! Eternity's Child - The Official Soundtrack - Crystal Waterfalls Lively and moderately melodious, which makes it more interesting than a lot of orchestral VGM out there. A little simple however, I guess it goes with the light nature of the track, used to depict water. Sonic the Hedgehog Remix - Dr.'Gigglymen' Sonic who? All right, this one didn't "wow" me as much as the singer at first, but when 1:36 came, it became just too groovy not to get into. The whole hip hop/rap vibe is not something I particularly enjoy, but it's pretty light here and the jazz/funk vibe is really neat, if executed eccentrically. Strangely good. Super R-Type (Game Rip) - As Wet as a Fish Tight beat with a reflective melody, something simple yet enjoyable to a certain extent. Then a jazzy piano, which I pretty much always dig, and a repetitive bass solo ends the track. Not the best thing ever, but it has an old school charm. By the way, the recording is flawed as the volume fluctuates during the first 10 seconds (most probably due to SNESamp's volume being set to "increase", which is not a good thing). Tobi Tsukihime Soundtrack - MAGICAL AMBER Damn, I'm out of bread! Cool tune, well done and all, even though I feel like I heard it many times before (and not from Tobi Tsukihime). Zeliard (PC Game Rip) - Tumba Town Well, I guess it can work well as background music to a town, but I'm not enjoying it much as a standalone piece. -------------------- (3 points) Age of Mythology Original Soundtrack - Hoping for Real Betterness (2 points) Bike Banditz Original Sound Track - eXceptional eXploration (Stage 1) (1 point) Sonic the Hedgehog Remix - Dr.'Gigglymen' |

Is it based on points??
I'm not sure how it works but:
Eternitys Child, is definitly the best. |
Yes, you have a total of 6 points that you must distribute among the nominations any way you see fit. The only stipulations are that you have to distribute all six points, the max any song can get is 3 points, and you have to pick at least 3 songs. Am I missing anything?
