reformat lol
lol, I checked google first, don't worry.
I don't have my xp discs. I can't access My Computer due to a virus. I can't use system restore. Are there any other options? I'm sure you can format with msdos, but I don't know how... I'm having problems finding info on the google since most people only offer the "boot your xp disc" option. PS: I'm using windows xp. |
Do you have anti-virus software installed? If so restart your computer and start pressing the F8 key and see if it boots up and then run your anti-virus software.

I'd recommend you torrent one of those Windows XP ISOs, so readily available. For more safety, get the torrent that's XP SP3, straight from MSDN, rather than any other "slipstreamed" images.

I'm not really losing much if I wipe the HD, to be honest I've been thinking about doing it for other reasons, this just gives me a need for it. I save everything on an external so I'm only losing installed programs which are easily replaced.
I'll see if I can even find myself with a computer that can burn disks, at the moment I'm left using Ubuntu right off the CD, my ps3 and my work computer. Limited options. I would much rather wipe and install ubuntu for now until I get my disks back in a few monthes... So how do you do it with msdos? |
Boot to DOS. Type "format C: /q" without the quotes.
|
I thought the dos command was fdisk.
You know, the way people used to give horrible "advice" to people asking retarded questions involving computers, like telling them to press ALT-F4. THE MAOR YOU KNOW. |
I believe fdisk is a program that you run, it lets you do stuff like partition and junk like that in addition to just formatting the drive.

thanks for the help folks. |
Couldnt you just boot to safemode, and nuke all the virus shit with msconfig?
