This is a huge blow to the literary community. He was 46 years old and teaching English! I can't imagine what might have led a wide-acknowledged genius of writing to "apparently" commit suicide. I'm personally not an authority of his published works, but I've read bits and pieces of essays that he'd written and Infinite Jest has been sitting on my shelf, begging to be read. Perhaps now I'll jump it to the top of the queue.

I also can't imagine what led someone who made a career writing about chronic depression to commit suicide. It is baffling.
