New Nomination! I brought up this album when I first started Soundtrack of the Week and it was met with no objections. Hopefully that still holds!

Composer: Tenpei Sato

Track Title: Riot Bluster
Disc Number: 1 (of 1)
Track Number: 5
Catalog Number: KICA-516
Year: 2000

Fixed the week numbers in the thread title.

Also I think I've got another nomination around here somewhere, let's see:
  • Artist: Raito (Masaru Kuba)
  • Album Title: Bike Banditz Original Sound Track
  • Track Title: eXceptional eXploration (Stage 1)
  • Disc Number: 1 (of 1)
  • Track Number: 3
  • Catalog Number: FBCD-003
  • Year: 2003
  • Additional Information: The deciding factor in picking this track was the piano switching audio channels for no reason.

Okay, here's my nomination. And for those who thought "Dr. Sushi's Laboratory of Terror" was quite the title...

Artist: Thomas Howard Lichtenstein feat. DJ Potatoe (Eric Ruth)
Album: Neon FM: Dance Radio (Game Rip)
Song Title: girlz buttz
Track Number: I don't think these tracks were ever numbered.
Year: 2005
Sources: Neon FM: Dance Radio
Additional Info: I was actually going to nominate this for BSC, but totally forgot about it at the time. Also, being that this is a music game, the song is 1:41 in length. There exists a longer version of this song that these two put together, but it was never used in-game and was a pain in the ass to track down. The longer version has some extra verses, so I'll upload that too, perhaps for the extras folder.

Also, I'd be fine with either song Epsilon planned to nominate in the previous topic, just as long as he knows people will probably judge the Huelsbeck song a bit harsher.

Nomination #7

Composer: Jun Ishikawa, Tadashi Ikegami
Game Title: Kirby: Canvas Curse
Track Title: Tiny Town
Track Number: 5
Year: 2005

Kirby: Canvas Curse is obscure enough for the contest, isn't it? :erm:

CROSS HERMIT SOUNDTRACK - Cross Hermit I like the initial sound of this one--minimalistic, desolate piano with vocals and synths. The second half of the song is almost 100% different--so much so that it's jarring--and while it's not bad (in fact, it's quite good), it's also a lot more standard.

eXceed 3rd -JADE PENETRATE- (Game Rip) - FLY UP A hyperactive synth track in the vein of a hundred thousand others. It's competent, but doesn't bring anything new to the table and winds up sounding very familiar.

Excite Truck (Game Rip) - Nebula This sounds about how you'd expect a racing track to sound, with plenty of percussive and guitar noise but not a lot of substance. Some of the snarling guitar passages are worth a second look, but that's about all.

Guxt (Game Rip) - Stage 5 Cross, eXceed, Excite, Guxt...a definite X theme going on this week! This is a pretty good chiptune, with some nice drive to it.

In the wake of Doshin, the GIANT - All Along the Bardo Island Laid-back Latin-style acoustics. I don't generally go in for this sort of thing, but it's okay as background music for when the cabana boy brings more towels out.

POPOROGUE Original Soundtrack - The Magic of the Moon, Majestic Dream - For Those Who Chase Dreams Mediocre J-Pop. I almost wish it were horrible enough to rant against, but instead it's just...there.

Red Stone Original Soundtrack - -Tower- Dancing Gear The fragmented opening was pretty neat, an interesting spin on the usual old trance elements. Sadly, the track sinks into the usual well-worn groove soon after.

Ultima Online (Game Rip) - Cove This shows its age and MIDI origins a bit. The overall sound is nice, but it doesn't really go anywhere.

The Point Spread
Cross Hermit - 3 pts.
Stage 5 - 2 pts.
Bardo Island - 1 pt.

Love the opening of CROSS HERMIT SOUNDTRACK - Cross Hermit, love the remainder even more. It's a thoroughly enjoyable track with a great sense of tempo, melody and instrumentation; everything's so enthusiastic. =] The development at 2:13 is awesome, and the one at 2:28 is about thrice as awesome! Perhaps a bit too hectic at times, but otherwise I can't fault this track~

eXceed 3rd -JADE PENETRATE- (Game Rip) - FLY UP has a great drive and sense of character, and some of the synth lines are pretty solid. But nothing about the melody appeals to me, and that makes this one lose a lot of points in my eyes. =/ Other than that, it's pretty entertaining! Just not entirely memorable and hooky (of or pertaining to melodic hooks??).

Excite Truck (Game Rip) - Nebula's such a potent, brutal force. This is the definition of musical drive; the quality of rock here is pretty great. Also, 0:46 or thereabouts is really cool! I'm not as engaged by it as I was the last time I heard it (BSC 2007?), but it's still solid.

(CHz, what other Pixel gamerips do you have? =O) Guxt (Game Rip) - Stage 5 is quality, through and through. The catchy and bubbly --albeit tense melody-- is really accentuated by the awesome developments. A point is definitely going here.

I really like islandy, tropical themed music, but only when it's done in a catchy, melodious way. In the wake of Doshin, the GIANT - All Along the Bardo Island sadly doesn't feature much of a melody, nor is the relaxing island vibe that strong. Yeah, this one sounds rather awkward; can't even say I care much for the guitar samples. =/

Ugh, I still haven't listened to a good majority of the Popolocrois soundtracks, even though I know I'd enjoy them. >_> But...umm...I don't really enjoy this POPOROGUE Original Soundtrack - The Magic of the Moon, Majestic Dream - For Those Who Chase Dreams track. It sort of sounds a bit bumbling, and some of the lyrical passages are a tad disjointed. The vocals try to create a mood but instead really turn me off. Oh well, I'm sure the rest of the soundtrack's great!

I enjoy the stop-startedness of Red Stone Original Soundtrack - -Tower- Dancing Gear, and some of the electronica elements really hit a chord with me. Down-tempo, kind of groovy, and even a little bit danceable! Nice.

Ooh I liked the start of Ultima Online (Game Rip) - Cove --but the piece didn't really elaborate on any key thing or aspect, which was disappointing. I like the sound and instrumental samples at work, but its a bit of a meandering track, isn't it?

stop-POINT-start (also, POINTY hooks~)

3 points: CROSS HERMIT SOUNDTRACK - Cross Hermit
1 point: Guxt (Game Rip) - Stage 5
1 point: Red Stone Original Soundtrack - -Tower- Dancing Gear
1 point: Excite Truck (Game Rip) - Nebula

6th: Ultima Online (Game Rip) - Cove
7th: In the wake of Doshin, the GIANT - All Along the Bardo Island

Slightly below average week. I won't be downloading any of the ones that didn't receive a point~! >=|

owut. How did I not know a Dubble-super-rip existed?! The rip I have pales in comparison; thanks for the link! (and huge thanks to dubble!)

Also if anyone says Canvas Curse isn't eligible, I will be very depressed, angry, and bewildered.

THE POWER OF WATER Sep 19, 2008 10:40 PM

I'm going to be on a trip for a week starting Sunday, so I'm not going to be able to close voting for this week. I've enlisted Kaleb to do so; hopefully he'll remember.

Coincidentally, next week is a battle, so that can start up without me having to do research or grab tracks.

Just missed: FLY UP

Man, how did I not vote for Nebula at last year's BSC? And why was All Along the Bardo Island so :tpg:? And what's with Japanese composers' infatuation with muslim prayers (2:49 of Cross Hermit)?

Nice week?

Was this the PSP Katamari game? If it's the PS2 one, I may have to voice a small protest simply because it was such an anticipated title whose popularity owed a significant debt to the music of the first game. But if it's the PSP game, I can let it slide through.
