Your GO-TO Meal.

Okay, so you've been working 14 hours of your worst nightmare of a day at the office, you're tired, you're cranky, and if you don't get some FUCKING REAL FOOD in after your rough day, someone is going to get hurt.

What is the first meal that comes to mind for you? What would you reach for on a bad day?

If you had to go out, where would it be? (I.e., "I had SUCH a sour day, I can't end it without going to Benihana's to cheer me up!")

If you were going to cook a meal for yourself, what would it be?

WolfDemon Aug 21, 2008 10:04 PM

If we had one here, it'd be Bennigan's for this.

The Turkey O'Toole. Possibly the greatest sandwich in existence.

At home, it's a couple of these.

Chicken breasts stuffed with broccoli and cheese. A few minutes in the microwave away from eternal bliss.

1. a couple different flavors of Ben and Jerri's Ice cream

2. I would go to Hooters, that would really cheer me up

3. If I have to cook it would be grilled BBQ Chicken and some dark chocolate brownies

Oh, I almost forgot. If I really did have a horrible day I rarely use food to counter the effect, almost always I go out, run, and sweat all that anger out

I love a good chicken caesar salad. Either that or spaghetti and meatballs, or some other type of pasta.

Golfdish from Hell Aug 23, 2008 09:35 AM

Subway (footlong tuna with jalapenos, cucumbers, tomato, pickles and sw chipotle) or if I have a REALLY rough day and extra cash flow...Hibachi and all-you-can-eat sushi always gets the job done.

Grilled cheese sandwiches with tomato soup on the side. Easy to make and fills the stomach completely for me. But if I had to go out, a nice big bowl of pho always does the trick. The broth is what does it for me because it warms me right up.

Triple meat triple cheese hamburger cooked medium mustard and pickle only, Large fry, Coke no ice from a local chain called Lotta Burger. Either that or the half hamburger half sausage burger with 10 ounces of chili on it they serve at Ron's. mmmmmmmm

Tokimeki Aug 28, 2008 02:24 PM

Bangers and mash with onion gravy. If the spuds dont taste right or take too long to cook someone gonna get hurt. Either that or 2 Mcdonalds big macs and fries with fanta.

Bernard Black Aug 28, 2008 10:19 PM

My classic comfort meal. Baked potato, mashed with sweetcorn, beetroot, spring onion, cheese and mayonnaise. Hasn't failed me yet.

nabhan Aug 31, 2008 12:43 AM

The unhealthiest food possible. Usually consists of two double-cheeseburgers and large fries from McDonald's.

If I were cooking for myself I would probably fry some eggs and shove them in a bagel sandwich with turkey and cheese.

I just discovered a new type of ramen made by Nissin. "Choice Ramen." Low in fat and sodium without taking away any of the flavor. If you fear carbs, then stay away.

Boil some water and dump on the noodles. Mix in the flavor packet, which comes in a little lump and isn't of a salt like consistency. Cooking doesn't get any easier then this. Unless you can't boil water.

Shake and bake pork chops, canned sweet potato and apple sauce.

A nearly effortless meal. What I cook when I don't feel like doing much.

I find myself particularly fond of dishes with both chicken and potatoes. With the variety of ways they can be prepared, I cannot name a single one that stands out as a favorite. Along with some rice, a chicken and potato dish would be a good ending to a bad day.

Wow, all of these sound really good. My mouth started to water when I saw the chicken with broccoli. I have to say my Go-to meal though is definitely at the Tasty Buffet. That place is an awesome Chinese place. White noodles, sushi rolls, and egg drop soup always satisfy my hunger. I'm a big seafood person so I do like salmon a lot too. Yummmm!!!

Thai green curry, spicy enough that I start seeing dancing pink flowers and other shit that ain't there.

People have actually reported getting a sort of natural high from eating curry - something to do with the heat coupled with the array of tastes - and it's rescued me from many an unpleasant day. Bonus points for including a Thai-tea-flavoured bubble tea. Tapioca balls FTW.

Chicken Fingers and Fries never fail for me.

Interesting, I haven't seen the noodles here in Australia but I'll probably just check their website. I'd like to know what they use to substitute the flavour with the low fat and sodium content, considering those are the 2 major flavour enhancers. And since we're on the topic, my friend's mate's family is involved in instant noodle industry and her father bans the whole family from eating instant noodles. The irony, eh?

I'm with coeccias for potatoes and chicken as comfort food. There's the braised potato and chicken dish my mom used to make that's really, really good, but she rarely cooks that anymore.

But since I'm alone now, I usually go for something sweet since they're more..readily available? Ice-cream, chocolate and the likes.

Pizza never fails to cheer me up. Especially if its loaded with veggies. If no pizza is available at the time (say, I'm on Mars, and Pizza Hut is closed), then either horseman85's solution of grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup or a combo of vegetable hummus, swiss cheese and crackers would be next.

I would like to replace my original suggestion with copious amounts of gin. Eventually the weight gain would add up to being food.

I'm sorry to hear your baked potato finally failed on you?

A plate of chicken parmesan with spaghetti.

DeLorean Nov 20, 2008 02:28 PM

My go-to mean is unhealthy... hopefully not as unhealthy as the McDonalds choice. There's nothing to soothes me more than an entire Little Caesars large pizza with each bite dipped into ranch dressing.

Aji Nov 20, 2008 02:35 PM

Pizza. Good city pizza. Something with seemingly random (but definitely perfect) ingredients...like peppers and crawfish and other good stuff.
