Gamingforce Soundtrack III ~ General PC Gaming

So, I've decided to take on the PC Gaming end of the latest GFF soundtrack. It doesn't seem like there was a PC Gaming section on last years soundtrack, so we really don't have to worry about repeats too much, although there were a couple of PC tracks on other categories, have a look here to be sure before making your nominations.

Here are the rules of engagement:

#1: PC/Mac platform exclusive titles only!
(There are some exceptions to this rule, for example, PC games which have had ports or versions put on consoles, but are commonly regarded as PC gaming franchises; examples: "Command & Conquer" "The Sims" "Diablo" "Warcraft", etc. Recently alot of games are released on PC and console platforms at the same time, these will NOT be accepted; recent examples: "Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion" "King Kong" "Prince of Persia", etc.)

#2: We will be filling a single CD, so that's roughly 15-20 tracks at 74 minutes, keep this in mind when nominating.

#3: There are no limitations as far as how old the title is, but remember this is PC/Mac, not Amiga, C64, etc.

#4: There is a maximum of 5 nominations per person. As such, I am asking that you mix them up a little, some classics/oldies, and some newer material. Don't forget to cross genres/composers/game companies as well.

#5: No obscure Japanese hentai dating sim thingies. While I realize some of the music is good, we want to keep an image of recognition.

That should be the general gist of it, post here if you have any questions. I will also provide an FTP account for nomination uploads. If you can't access the FTP for whatever reason, posting a YSI link is also acceptable. The format of the music must be in mp3, and ideally above 128kbps.

That was half of my list. :(

I really think that Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion should be here. The PC version is THE version to get and BY FAR has the larger fan base. The mod community is ridiculous. In fact, I would place the Elder Scrools series along with the examples that you listed just before it as a PC gaming franchise that have been ported to console a few times. I'm sure many others will agree with me.

Godai Apr 2, 2006 08:23 PM

I'm not completely against putting "Elder Scrolls IV" in that category, maybe because I really enjoyed the score. I'll let Capo come here and make that executive decision though.

Tails Apr 2, 2006 08:45 PM

I don't even play PC games!

1. Joel Eriksson - Battlefield 1942 Loading Theme
2. Jets'n'Guns - Death From Above

k.

1. Simcity 4 Rush Hour - ElectriCITY
2. Heroes of Might of Magic IV - Hope (better known here as "Dirt")

THE POWER OF WATER Apr 2, 2006 09:07 PM

Okay, here's my NON-PORNOGRAPHIC list:

Cave Story - On To Grasstown
Descent II - Crush
The Incredible Machine 2 (Red Book Audio) - Progressive
Perfect Cherry Blossom - Necrofantasia
Shogo: Mobile Armor Division - Negai (Wish)

List EXTREMELY subject to change, so I won't upload anything for now; I might end up swapping out every single track at some point in time.

Mucknuggle Apr 2, 2006 09:14 PM

1. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - Atmosphere 6

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Apr 2, 2006 09:42 PM

Just in case CHz changes his nomination, I'll repeat it here. NECROPHANTASIA deserves IMMORTALITY for rockin' so hard.

1) Perfect Cherry Blossom - NECROPHANTASIA
2) SIMCITY 2000 - 10001 (No title as it's redbook audio and that's how it appeared on the disc. It's the main theme though.)

My FTP is up if you folks wanna upload your noms.

This is more of an open call question, but are we going to exclude games that are multiplatform entirely? I mean, if we only do exclusives then obviously some titles will not be able to fit anywhere.

We'd be missing out on some good ones, if so. I'd like to see Beyond Good & Evil and Soul Calibur II (among others) nominated in at least one thread.

I've been thinking about this. Oblivion music could either be placed in the General PC Gaming album, the RPG album, or the General Gaming album. They all have their merits. Elder Scrolls was originally a PC exclusive, and has, according to you people, a bigger fanbase. BZ may argue otherwise but that's for another day. Lately, however, Elder Scrolls has come into the console world much more, and holds equal releases on the consoles, namely the 360. This would place it in the General Game Music album. And then there is the matter of it being an RPG, which would place it in the RPG album.

Just a word of warning: this is my final decision on this. There is to be no arguing, for nothing will change my mind. The RPG album has been fucking up things more than it's been helping. This was my fear at the beginning, and I don't know why I brought it back. There is nothing, nothing that can be put on the RPG album that couldn't be put somewhere else. For that reason, the RPG album is now being done away with.

As for the Elder Scrolls music, the music from Oblivion should be put in the General Game Music album, because of the simultaneous release. They show no bias towards any system now, though because they did prior to this game, all Elder Scrolls 1-3 music should be put in the PC Gaming album.

Sorry for the inconvenience to everyone.

Thanks el jacko. I missed that.

ARG!! It was so hard to choose five! And even then, I still cheated a little. Since Sierra's adventure game music doesn't seem to get nearly enough love these days, they get most of my nominations.

1) Quest For Glory 1: So You Want To Be A Hero? - Main Title Theme
Or Hero's Quest, for you purists. Since these were some of the first video games I ever played, this theme sums up everything that PC gaming is about for me.

2) Quest For Glory 1: So You Want To Be A Hero? - The Magic Meadow (Erana's Peace)
Now, this is a nice song. But the thing is, I'm not certain that this version of the song is actually from the game. It might be from the VGA version; I'm used to the EGA version, so I couldn't tell you. But it's very possible that it's a re-recorded version from the people at Quest Studios. If that makes it ineligible for this soundtrack, then I'll substitute it with....
Quest For Glory 5: Dragon Fire - The Dance of Mystery and Intrigue
Mysterious, calm, and pretty.

3) Thief: The Dark Project - Dark Beat
The music that plays during the credits. Sort of industrial, sort of ambiant, all kinds of nifty.

4) The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind - Title Theme
If Morrowind tunes go here instead of somewhere else, it would be a crime not to have it.

Mmm... I'm torn on my last nomination. I'll edit this later when I decide which one to go for.

Godai Apr 3, 2006 12:50 AM

Thanks for the noms, I'll be waiting for your last choice. One thing though, the first one is in OGG format, I need mp3s, would you happen to have it in that format?

Done and done. I updated my other post to include the new file.

Elorin Apr 3, 2006 07:24 AM

Fairly esoteric mix of songs. Will upload them within the week. Is there a dateline we must keep for uploads?

Divine Divinity (Game Rip) - Track 24 - "Whispers From A Council Past"

SimCity 4 Rush Hour Soundtrack - Track 4 - "Wheels Of Progress"

The Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall (Game Rip) - "Winter1"
Daggerfall is the second game in the Elder Scrolls series.

Heroes of Might and Magic IV The Soundtrack - Track 20 - "Battle III"

The Sword of Xuan Yuan Side Story - The Green Tide (Game Rip) - "Fight02"

Aardark Apr 3, 2006 10:38 AM

Anachronox -- Brain Train.

Gone Jackals -- Get Outta Town (Full Throttle).

Louis Armstrong -- A Kiss To Build A Dream On (Fallout 2 obv.).

Scrapland -- Human.

With emphasis on obscure, Japanese, hentai or dating sim?
Is Falcom music popular enough to be recognizable or too Japanese?
Do hentai games qualify that don't focus on dating, but rather on stalking or raping and play like RPGs/Action Adventures?
What about games released in America and with cut-out hentai scenes, like Phantom of Inferno or Ever17?

Kaleb.G Apr 3, 2006 12:26 PM

Does Deus Ex count as a PC franchise?

If so, I would like to nominate the song "DuClare Chateau" from the original Deus Ex.

You should be able to get it from the #gamemp3s release I made for you; if not, I'll upload it later.

I think games that focus on raping would be ok

Dullenplain Apr 3, 2006 11:08 PM

Sim City 3000 - Concrete Jungle

It can be downloaded here

Drakken Apr 4, 2006 12:12 AM

Sim City 3000 - Sim Broadway
The War of Genesis 3 (Korean RPG) - Destruction
The Incredible Machine 3 - Progressive
The Sims 2 game rip - CAS
Tyrian - Tyrian, the Level

That's about as varied a list as you can get.

Sim Broadway and CAS are long songs, but they're very good long songs. :D

I feel bad not nominating an Age of Mythology song, since that's some of the best-fitting PC music I've ever heard. Um...if, say, the TS2 track is too long, I'd like to nominate Flavor Cats (In the Comfort Zone) from AoM.

EDIT: I forgot about TIM 3! Had to nominate Progressive, so I removed Track 4 from Dr. Brain.

Stealth Apr 4, 2006 12:57 AM

C&C Red Alert 1 - Hell March
C&C Red Alert 1 - Roll Out
C&C - Airstrike
