Persona 2: Innocent Sin Translation Project

So, some of you may remember that before Persona 3, there was a Persona 1. Strange right? =0 Well, get this, there was a Persona 2. Now, Persona 2 hit US shores, but it was a follow-up game (akin to FES for Persona 3, although a full game in itself). The first installment was called Persona 2: Innocent Sin. Unfortunately, this never made its way to the US.

Recently, a fellow has been translating it. That's right. And his progress?

He's at 98% as I post this. Anyone else keeping their eyes on this? Really looking forward to this release. I've been watching it since he was at 30%. Fiiiinally almost done :wrings hands:

Soluzar Aug 8, 2008 09:03 AM

I've been keeping my eyes on it from the start. I'd love to play this. I'd also love it if anyone was to re-translate the original Persona from Japanese and include all the content omitted from the American version. It's a good franchise.

Nehmi Aug 8, 2008 09:40 AM

Actually Gech, the Persona 2 that hit the states, Eternal Punishment was the second volume of P2. Innocent Sin was the first volume. Aside from that though, these were two completely different games, with different stories (although I guess EP would be more like a continuation).

Anyway, I tried playing Innocent Sin once in japanese... :(

Gechmir Aug 8, 2008 09:50 AM

Oh? =x I thought we got the first installment and missed the second!

Hmm. Thanks for the clarification!

JazzFlight Aug 8, 2008 04:58 PM

This of course begs the question... anyone got an .iso of Innocent Sin?

HERE WE GOOOOO:
Demonoid.com - [PSx] Persona 2: Innocent Sin [NTSC-J] w/English Script
The "English Script" in the torrent is just a separate document file, so the iso should theoretically work with the upcoming patch.

^-^ Aug 8, 2008 05:03 PM

as a side note for popstation compatibility:
Persona 2: Eternal Punishment
Quote:

Use 4.01 with GameID SLPS-02100 and you shouldn't have many problems. Rarely the game may freeze, so be sure to save often.
Persona 2: Innocent Sin

Tested on 4.01 m33-2 maybe slowdown a bit for some time, but still work. no bug, no freeze so far.
And with that, I will start playing this tonight, seeing as before there was no fix~

Radez Aug 8, 2008 05:10 PM

I tried to play it with the english translation separate and gave up in despair. This is new hope though, holy shit. I'm so excited. =o

I was under the impression that neither Persona 2 installment worked well on the PSP... :( Some cruel, sick joke. I tried the one that hit the US but it always locked up in combat. Or it'd get all glitchy.

mortis Aug 9, 2008 07:52 AM

ah yes, the guy on Mother3.org was mentioning this. I look forward to it as well...

I know this is OT, but speaking of Mother 3, is that fan-translation coming along or what? It feels like it's becoming freaking Duke Nukem Forever.

Rotorblade Aug 9, 2008 12:05 PM

Last I heard, they were almost done with it. Too bad that doesn't mean shit without some kind of link, I'll check around.

Muzza Aug 9, 2008 07:32 PM

Guys, you all know that the Policenauts translation project is more important than all the rest. Get serious.

But yeah, I still haven't even played the original Persona, let alone 2 and 3. :( I've been meaning to, and it'll definitely be sweet to play this section of the second installment. I've heard nothing but good things about it!

Strike 2, Muzza.

Actually, he is nearing the end. They went through a second playthrough to squash bugs, fix typos, etc, etc. There is still a two and a half month wait, but that is the 'worst case scenario' at this time.

No. Hard Pass. Aug 9, 2008 09:30 PM

Except that Duke Nukem was clearly never getting finished, whereas this has had constant, steady updates and progress since it was announced.

This translation process has been very public and quite well charted. I loved Starmen before, I'd have their children now.

Sarag Aug 9, 2008 11:50 PM

The Mother 3 translation portion is done, they're still owrking on the test playthroughs before doing an initial release.

I mean I know how frustrating translation projects are, personally I'm gay for the Mystic Ark translation (one day, my sweet.....................) but this one is being worked on at a good clip.

Anyway I remember hearing about this back in the early naughties, so I'm happy to see they're almost finished. Is it going to be a patch, or that gay-ass 'we release the translation script and you just play it in runes and read our translation' bs?

The P2 translaton is definitely a patch. There are some screenshots available if you follow the link, and you'll see that pretty much everything relevant to gameplay will be changed to English.

Black Mage Aug 10, 2008 01:10 AM

Great timing, thanks for the heads up. I just finished Eternal Punishment about a week ago on the PSP, and loved it.

I haven't found Revelations: Persona nearly as enjoyable as 2 or 3 thus far (Mark danced crazy!), but I'm definitely stoked to play Innocent Sin without having to refer to a companion text document.

I imagine Innocent Sin will work pretty well on the PSP, as Eternal Punishment worked fine, with an occasional freeze, when you put in Innocent Sin's Game ID instead.

Tyr Aug 10, 2008 08:20 PM

I have been following this project closely over the year and been excited about the recent progress. I have actually held on to Eternal Punishment in hopes of plaiying both back to back. Amazing in that age when most every rpg of note was being released here that this one slipped through the cracks of Atlus. But hey we all couldn't of lived without Atlus localizing Thousand Arms lol

Off topic but since some have talked about other translation projects, is there anyone out there that know about the Tactics Ogre SNES translation. They were supposed to be using the PS1 translation last time I saw news but it seems like progress just stopped. I really would love to play this since I hear there are zero load times and better quality of music. Not to mention they actually have full item names and not that weird 5 letter crap Atlus had on the PS1.

aw hell yeah

even though I'm unlikely to download the iso and play it, I'm still excited. Is that gay?

Marshall Banana Aug 12, 2008 11:42 AM

I heard it wasn't so much that it slipped through the cracks as Sony rejected it for a lot of the content, and they weren't so sure either. Since like, Hitler is a character in it, and there's high school violence at a time when school shootings were more common.

I'm pretty excited about this. I've been following it since like 70%, does that make me a noob :(?

I hear it's kind of interesting if you play EP first, but to get the full impact, you need to play IS first.

Definitely looking forward to this.

So we need a modded console to play this patch right? Can a modded PS2 work with this? My PS2 can play burned PS2 games, but I have yet to test it out with burned PS1 games...

Though I guess the worst case scenario is to use popstation on the PSP

^-^ Aug 13, 2008 07:55 PM

No. A Modded PS2 cannot play burned ps1 games unless it has been chipped and/or you are using the memory card exploit with a fliptop mod.

Worst case scenario? I just explained in a previous post that it is NOW playable on the psp.

I don't see how this is worse when you can also save wherever you want.

Kairi Li Aug 13, 2008 10:15 PM

Well I much rather play it on a TV screen then a small PSP screen....

Depends on the chip you have. You could always get the "Breaker Pro" bootdisc for PS1, if you still have one. It works on the PS2 if you have some way to trick the tray sensor.
