Master of the Monster Lair

Has anyone heard of this? It feels like I"m the only one.

Official Master of the Monster Lair Website

The art style seems a little simplistic, but the game looks interesting. The concept seems to be like the classic fox trap, where you get a box and put a piece of meat underneath it, only you set up really complicated boxes and trap monsters to fight.

I think I'm interested cause I really like dungeon crawlers and Harvest Moon, which this kind of looks like a combination of (but better than Rune Factory, I hope). Certainly a fair level of customization and replay value.

Any thoughts?

If it playes like that PSP game "Dungeon Maker Hunting Ground," which it sounds like it does, I'm in.

(And yeah I've heard of this, but eh, I feel like I start too many threads about new games and I gotta knock it off.)

Wow, it looks just like it O_o

What's Dungeon Maker like?

I don't have a PSP, so I don't think I can check it out. They both look like a lot of fun though.

I'm following this game slowly as well.

I recall there being a PS1 game with a similar premise. Yet I cannot remember for the life of me the title of that game. I remember it had something to do with luring people into your castle and killing them off with traps that you set within your castle.

I think it was Deception... Something... I kind of remember it, but I read about it a good 9-10 years ago.

Um, I don't quite get the idea of this game. So you're basically a guy who...builds dungeons to attract monsters...and then fight those same monsters and get treasure? Why not just look for treasure while building the dungeon? What's the purpose of attracting monsters? I guess the story will have some sort of explanation.

Ah anyway, this game reminds me of Dungeon Keeper for the PC by Bullfrog. You were the bad guy building dungeons to serve your evil needs, and you hired monsters and built traps to prevent pesky do-gooders from taking your treasure.

TECMO'S MOTHERFUCKING DECEPTION <3 Those three games were incredible. If you have a PSP or a PS1 on-hand, try these games. They are fantastic.

Chances are that the monsters *drop* the treasures. Much like Deception =U Or places become unlocked by monster dropping a key and new area/treasures lie beyond door, etc.

I fucking loved Deception <3 Can't wait. Many thanks, OP!

(Slow internet, so I can't view the website. But if folks are saying it's like Deception, good enough for me~) I think the storyline would have more potential if you were slaying people, but we'll have to see. I enjoyed Deception because as it went along, you ended up killing people, and in turn, their lovers/friends/relatives/acquaintances would come for you in later installments.

Dude, someone's played the Deception series. Gech, did you ever play the PS2 game, Trapt? I saw it the other day in a bin and bought it, it's actually quite good, though it seems to be pretty low-budget. I haven't gotten very far yet though.

Anyway, this game sounds interesting, and a talking shovel is a feature.

I remember Deception, I only ever got a chance to play the demo, but I friggin' loved it. I hadn't really thought of it, but it does look a lot like Deception.

Wow, the thought of that just got me even more excited about this game X_x...

I wouldn't say it's exactly like Deception, but I'd say it's similar. You are building your own dungeon to attract monsters in to, but the dispatching of these monsters I think is based on your character instead of traps that you set. So at the bare bones, it still plays like a dungeon crawler, except you make your own dungeon. I've never played Deception, so I can't say how that plays, nor can I draw any comparisons. But from what I read and heard, Deception has your character's only means of attack in the form of traps.

That and I recall Deception having a more gritty and dark atmosphere. This, by comparison, looks rather cheerful.

Once again, website didn't work for me :V I was behind slow internet when I made the post. So there!

Omnislash124 Aug 14, 2008 08:38 AM

Actually, the purpose of my post was more of a "don't get your hopes up that much yet" and not so much of a "you're wrong" type of post.

Either way, game's been pushed back anyway, so we have more time to speculate, though I'm not sure what to speculate due to the lack of any details from any source.
