Wario Land: Wiggle Waggle Biggle Baggle It!

Holy shit it's a 2D platformer on a Nintendo console. Possibly one with Wario in it. Hold the Wii Remote on its side, shake bags of money, tilt it to do things, award winning innovation and so forth. It looks fucking fun, unlike that DS platformer that was very unfun. Dr. Robotnik seems to be the bad guy, Captain Syrup from the earlier Wario Land's also returns. 16:9 merely adds junk to the sides of the screen.

Developed by Good-Feel, their first ever game. Although it's being headed by an ex-Konami dude who worked on the Mystical Ninja games, so yeah! Production I.G's also doing animated cut scenes for it, you can watch the intro here~

More screens here, there. Somewhere. Due out in Japan this month, September for America and PAL regions (yes, they're actually releasing something in the same month as the US!) Between this and Mega Man 9, I am excited in the vagina.

Identity Crisis Jul 9, 2008 12:11 AM

Captain Syrup makes a comeback. Her cult followers are going to freak.

Wario World was "meh" at best, and I haven't played Master of Disguise (mostly from hearing that it sucked). Hopefully, this game breaks the trend of mediocrity found in the more recent Wario platformers. I do like the cartoony style of the game already; it seems appropriate for a Wario-centric game.

The Plane Is A Tiger Jul 9, 2008 12:28 AM

Those screens look good, but I don't think I've really enjoyed a Wario Land game since the very first one so I'm not going to hold out much hope for this one. Well, the Virtual Boy one was fun, but that was Virtual Boy. It'd be great if this actually turns out to be good, though.

Jinn Jul 9, 2008 12:44 AM

Alright! I remember playing through Wario Land and liking the hell out of it. One more title contributing to me wanting to buy a Wii.

The time is now. Wii, come to me.

Muzza Jul 9, 2008 01:01 AM

Meh, it's a Wario game, of course I'll buy it, no matter how mediocre it is! I don't know why that's the case with Wario games and me. >_> Anywho, I've got high hopes for this one from a newbie developer. The game mechanics sound accessible and good enough to entertain me for at least a day, and the graphics look sweet in all their 2D glory.

Yeah, I'll be getting this one.

NovaX Jul 9, 2008 08:37 AM

The trailer looks incredible and I'm really digging the hand-drawn style they've adopted.

Animechanic Jul 9, 2008 06:02 PM

Wow, A 2D platformer that is actually, truly 2D. I thought those were more or less extinct on the home consoles. Looking forward to this if the trailer is a good indication of gameplay.

Edit: For those that wisely skipped it, Master of disguise sucked.

So this is out in the US now, who has picked it up?

Also the real reason I bumped this thread was for this MOTHER FUCKING AWESOME COMMERCIAL!

FatsDomino Sep 23, 2008 09:56 AM

MY GOD

best advertisement ever

I now must own this game.

Holy shit, that's amazing.

That's just enough for me to denote a purchase for this game.

Sousuke Sep 23, 2008 11:07 AM

Oh my fuck. That's awesome. At first I didn't know what to say--the YouTube link isn't to a direct video. Then I started watching it.

I was like "Oh that's cool, the coins flew all over. And--HOLYSHIT WHAT'S GOING ON?" :tpg:

[edit] I just realized after watching it again that the falling pieces are movable. You can actually grab stuff and Shake It! around. [See what I did there?]

Dopefish Sep 23, 2008 06:39 PM

That is devastating work by Nintendo on that page. Too bad not everything can be flung around. Imagine doing that with every webpage? :D

Muzza Sep 24, 2008 02:51 AM

>=| I just watched that commercial and thought my computer was suffering a seizure. I hooked it out of the power point, ran to the local computer shop barefoot, and pretty much threw it at the clerk. I told him that while I was watching a Wario youtube video, my computer went completely spaz. He lol'd and started shaking my computer while going "Nyah hah hah!". It was then that I realised--I left the computer store in quite an embarrassed daze.

Whoa must own this game~

Wow... :tpg:

That was one of the best advertisment ever. I really wasn't expecting all the stuff to fall apart. Brilliant use of flash.

So gonna get this game now, the gameplay looks fun already, but this ad just solidified my decision.

Kilroy Sep 24, 2008 05:08 AM

I must admit, it looks cool. The Edge review left me luke warm, though... But it's a Wario game where he isn't that intolerable sod the Wario Ware games made him.

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Sep 24, 2008 04:32 PM

The game is exactly what you'd expect-- Wario Land on a console. This isn't the daunting and expansive platformer that Super Mario Galaxy is, but it's still classic Wario humor and gameplay. Pick it up if you won't be pissed that you can run through the main story in a day.

This game also uses the Achievement/Trophy-esque objective listings that Super Smash Bros. Brawl had.

The Plane Is A Tiger Sep 24, 2008 04:42 PM

Whoa, this actually turned out to be good? I'm both shocked and pleased. It would be nice if Wario Land games stopped being synonymous with crap. I'm not in a hurry to pick it up since it's apparently very short, but sometime in the future I'll SHAKE EVERYTHING.

Its a rare commercial that can sell me on a game without already knowing about the game, but by god this one did it. However due to finances, I'll probably be picking it up later on the cheap.

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Sep 24, 2008 07:29 PM

They did that with Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, too. I've more or less come to expect it. At least they stuck some HUD stuff on the side, I guess.

What? Wario Land I and II were classics, and III was decent enough. Only IV sucked, and Master of Disguise didn't even carry the name. I guess you could maybe count Wario World, but that game was just overhyped because of Treasure being behind it. Far from terrible.

The Plane Is A Tiger Sep 24, 2008 07:33 PM

As I said near the top of this thread, I loved Wario Land I and remember the Virtual Boy game being alright, but the others have been too crappy to bother with. Wasn't II the one where you were essentially immortal for the entire game? Even if that was III, I'm counting Master of Disguise which makes a 3 game losing streak. That's more than enough to write off a series.

Also, Radiant Dawn only has the side borders outside of battle. It's annoying, but you don't have to deal with it during the actual maps.

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Sep 24, 2008 07:50 PM

Both II and III had an invincible Wario (although I think he could die in certain situations), but the mechanics behind it were great in II. I also remember you could be attacked and turned into a zombie, which was always fun.

In any case, I will give you IV and Master of Disguise, which had left me skeptical of Wario games not followed by "Ware". But I do recommend Shake It! to anyone who enjoyed those first two Wario Land games, as it's definitely a return to form.

pofcorn Sep 29, 2008 08:54 PM

Yeah it's fun. Graphics and music are fuck awesome. It's pretty easy and not very long though (2 hours in and near the end of world 3.) Not worth $50, but very much worth a rental.

Kanzaki Sep 30, 2008 03:05 PM

It looks pretty nice.

And the commercial is excellet, totally love it. At first I didn't notice anything, but I was surprised when the coins went out of the video screen.

The "shake everything" reminds me of Mischief Makers and Marina's "shake shake"
