Caliburvania for Wii?

Seriously... what?

SCANS.

chato Jun 27, 2008 07:52 PM

Hell yeah. Shitz hot already ;p.

Honestly, a 2d version would've let them get away with it.

Wall Feces Jun 27, 2008 07:52 PM

Last night, the Mega Man 9 news made me the happiest guy in Brooklyn, and today this Castlevania news has brought me right back down to neutral. Holy shit, talk about awful.

Golfdish from Hell Jun 27, 2008 08:06 PM

Ugh...not sure what's worse: Metrovania rehash bs or this.

At least this is different...Even if it is hopelessly stupid.

Dhsu Jun 27, 2008 08:49 PM

I'm going to get this just for the mere possibility that the Sword Familiar will say "SLICE" every time Alucard attacks with it.

Wall Feces Jun 27, 2008 08:55 PM

Atleast the Metroidvania games are fun as hell. This looks just so derivative and lackluster...

The unmovable stubborn Jun 27, 2008 08:56 PM

Am I the only one who doesn't see why this is so terrible based only on the concept?

Oh no, a fighting game

this is the end of days

Elmoogle Jun 27, 2008 10:52 PM

Biggest problem I see here is lack of unique series characters. Belmont. Whip.

Infernal Monkey Jun 28, 2008 01:12 AM

This reminds me of MACE: The Dark Age on N64. But will it be as good as MACE: The Dark Age? Because MACE: The Dark Age was pretty much the greatest fighting game since Rise of the Robots. My favorite part of MACE: The Dark Age was when you fell off the edges of the stage, because in MACE: The Dark Age, it wasn't simply an instant death fall thing like Virtua Fighter where the characters died from tripping a meter or so onto the dirt, MACE: The Dark Age had kiddy pools of ACID or SPIKES that would slowly kill you.

I hope you can play as the skeleton boss from Castlevania 64! You couldn't play as him in http://i27.tinypic.com/24l9847.gif

Has Konami made ANY fighting games since Justice League or Ninja Turtles on the SNES?

Seriously, what are they thinking?

Paco Jul 1, 2008 03:03 PM

You know guys, this is not the worst thing that could happen to the series. After all, if it's done well like the SoulCalibur games were, who's to say it's going to be an awful game based on the concept? As long as it doesn't turn into Castlevania64, you people should probably stop pointing accusatory fingers and perhaps embrace the fact that not every character in every video game series needs to be confined to the genre it started in.

Metriod, for example, didn't stick to side-scrolling fare forever and when it made the jump to FPS-land it was still, not only a solid title, but probably one of the best revivals that any game series experienced in the 3-D generation of consoles.

But I don't know. That's just me.

Tagonist Jul 1, 2008 03:46 PM

I sure didn't see that one coming.
Okay, the series does have enough characters for a Super Smash Vania Brawl like thing. It's just so much of a Wii thing. Instead of trying to get the 2D concept working right in 3D (Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness WORKED, but were quite far away from REALLY good games...) we get something completely diffrent, which reeks of something like:
"hey guys, we need casual title for the Wii that targets the adolescent crowd instead of kids and their parents... how abouts something casual with... Metal Gear? No? Ah wait, CASTLEVANIA! But what should we do? A puzzle party game maybe? No, not for that target audience. We need something... For boys. A FIGHTING GAME! There we can throw in all the gay bishonen for the girl audience. INSTANT CASH! Now make something!"
It does have the chance of becoming a good game though. It just doesen't seem right.

That said, I'd sure love to see them trying a new take on Castlevania. I mean, no continuation of Metroidvania, no re-heating of the Lament of Innocence thing. Something new. Something with LESS enemies. Less like DMC-style combat. Just something new. New in the same way they did it with Metroid. Hell, a 3rd person Metroid PRIME-vania could actually work...

Black Mage Jul 2, 2008 12:37 AM

Since when have fighting games been casual? Since they were on the Wii? Oh okay.

The overreactions and meltdowns in this thread are pretty ridiculous. I've never been much of a Castlevania fan, but aside from the short-shorts in that first scan, I'm not seeing the problem.

Sure, it could be terrible, but I don't see why this concept garners such a backlash.

Zephyrin Jul 2, 2008 09:53 AM

Fighting games are casual because you can pop it in, play one game through to the boss in around 20 minutes, and be done. You can pop it in, play against your friend for 5 minutes or 5 hours, and it makes no difference. It's not like you're starting a campaign or a quest or anyshit.

Fighting games...pop it in, play as long or as little as you want, and you don't have to watch the clock and make sure you can find a save point in time, yadda yadda.

Rotorblade Jul 2, 2008 09:59 AM

Just because one person can choose to pick them up and then walk away doesn't make the intended experience a casual affair.

Gechmir Jul 2, 2008 10:25 AM

Not disgusted. I'm moreso, well, confused. Such an odd genre-jump for this series... :psyduck: The platformers already make sickening amounts of cash; WHY BUCK TEH SYSTEM
