George Carlin is Dead

Comedian George Carlin dies in Los Angeles at 71 - Yahoo! News

Man that really sucks. I was such a fan of his material. Seems like a lot of the good guys are dying during a short time frame.

Musharraf Jun 23, 2008 01:17 AM

71 years? That's no age. Did he smoke a lot?

value tart Jun 23, 2008 01:18 AM

He had a history of cocaine issues, as well as heart problems.

RainMan Jun 23, 2008 01:26 AM

He's had a few bypass surgeries in the past if I remember properly. This is a huge blow to humanity (and at least comedy) as far as I'm concerned. There are few comedians as well spoken, truthful, articulate, caustic and hilarious as George Carlin. He will be missed.

RIP

Actually, it is an age. 71 to be precise. You're not very good at the "obvious game," are you?

As for George, I've nothing snarky to say. He was a brilliant man and his passing saddens me just a bit. He'll be missed by millions, I'm certain.

No. Hard Pass. Jun 23, 2008 01:33 AM

Frisbeetarianism is the belief that when you die, your soul goes up on the roof and gets stuck.

I truly hope you found a nice roof, George Carlin. :(

Arkhangelsk Jun 23, 2008 02:16 AM

Wow, I can't believe that. I'm glad that I at least saw him live once, even if it was a long time ago :(. When I was little he was definitely my favorite comedian (especially since my dad wouldn't let me watch Carlin when he was in the room) and I still enjoy seeing him do cameos in movies and TV.

This has been a pretty depressing month...

Less literally, I agree. Do we expect everyone to live to 100 nowadays? 71 years is a remarkable accomplishment.

Bradylama Jun 23, 2008 02:32 AM

If anything we should be shocked he didn't die years ago, but this still sucks majorly.

I don't know, considering today's life expectancy, I don't think that 71 is a good age to die. I read somewhere that life expectancy will rise to 100 years in a couple of decades from now!

Do you live in Somalia or what

To say that I was a fan of George Carlin would be a gross understatement. He was, by and large, my favorite comedian. His acts, while really aimed to be almost juvenile by most standards, really hit a lot of bases and put a lot of things into perspective for me; and for a couple of generations as well.

This is, indeed, a sad day for me.

R.I.P. George. You will be dearly missed. <3 http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...Junk/flame.gif

Fuck. Shit. Piss. :(

nanaman Jun 23, 2008 07:04 AM

He was no favourite of mine, but one of my friends loved the guy. Gonna be hard to tell him about this if he haven't already heard of it that is.

"Heres another thing I've been pondering. Have you heard this? Three out of four people now believe in angels. What are you, fucking stupid?"

WolfDemon Jun 23, 2008 09:29 AM

Damn... He was just here in Las Vegas doing shows this month. If I'd had any idea he'd be dead in a few weeks, I'd have definitely gone to see him.

Truly a sad day for comedy. R.I.P. George.

Temari Jun 23, 2008 12:03 PM

He just... expired... like a magazine subscription. ;_;

R.I.P George Carlin... seriously. :(

My favorite comedian has passed. It's indeed a sad day for me. I was lucky enough to see him live when he came to my town a few years ago. The first routine I saw him perform on HBO was You Are All Diseased, which ranks as one of my all-time favorites. Here's a good clip:

Rest in Peace, old man :(

Considering the average life expectancy of the United States for males is 75, then 71 is pretty good especially given his health problems.

Somalia's life expectancy is 47.

I'll probably just get a bunch of his DVDs and watch them all on Friday in honor of him.

Yeah? Didn't help. He died anyway. Apparently, the simple act of you seeing him did not slow down his heart problems. In fact, it may have made them more aggressive. You know, you could be the cause for George's death. How do you live with yourself?

Rest in peace, Carlin.

Helloween Jun 24, 2008 11:23 AM

I quote Jon Stewart when i say "I'm really sick of losing people we really need right now".

He offered the kind of perspective this world needs. I miss him already.

Especially when you lived a life like he did.

I loved George Carlin's work. It's an awful loss if you ask me.

But at least we know he won't be smiling down on us from above! =D

RainMan Jun 24, 2008 02:34 PM

Yea. Maybe he's looking up at us, screaming in agony.

Dark Nation Jun 24, 2008 02:36 PM

Yeah, I read about his passing right before I went to work and somewhat quickly made an entry about it, but a thread is fine too.

The only George Carlin CD I can claim to own is Toledo Window Box, which was material from his earlier years, the general "7 Words" era, I think. Its pretty funny, but his humor is very different from his more recent stuff. I also JUST downloaded Back In Town. If you guys want to get a hold of it, say the word and I'll throw it up here =)

So yeah, Rest In Peace, and uh... may Joe Pesci be with you, George.

Pyrite Jun 25, 2008 03:16 AM

Since he is dead and I can no longer entertain the fantasy of delivering this message in person, I will post it here:

Chickens are not decent, and of the eggs we eat, most are unfertilized.

get your facts straight, George Carlin

Penis Overflow Jun 26, 2008 05:59 AM

I found the awesomenest (if it's not a word, I just fucking invented it right now) link for George Carlin material. It has almost all of his material from the HBO stand-ups.

YouTube - DiavoloDiAno's Playlists

May Joe be with you, George.
