Actually I'm digging the visual style.
It's like some extremely dark and awesome animated movie. It kind of reminds me of the artwork in The Black Cauldron. |
They look like Soul Reaver had a bastard child with... Something. Maybe Prince of Persia?
But interesting none the less. They're also abandoning the rather grey-brown+gloom color palette of the past few years, which can only be good. |
Looks pretty good to me. Could have sworn there was already a topic here somewhere about this game but I guess I'm thinking of somewhere else cause I can't find it.
Definitely not "yucky" looking. Also I sure hope godsmack gets in on some of dis, they could make it a ritual for every other (2nd) game to have some super kickass godsmack song to make it badass and awesome like warrior within also i'm sure you all agree so no need to say anything. |

Yucky sir? Never! Definitely a great new direction for the environments of the game.
I'm curious to see if Stuart Chatwood will continue to write the music for the games. I liked the stuff he did with the Sands of Time trilogy. Now the question is, do i use this as a reason to buy a 360 or a PS3? |
Bumping a shitty thread for a pretty decent game. It all depends on your tolerance of certain repetitive actions.
On that note, I'm proposing the title of this thread be changed to "Prince of Persia - Check it out, I'm wallrunning into ANOTHER WALLRUN!" http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y27...-and-Elika.jpg Anyone else playing it? I've taken out the Hunter and the Necromancer; now working on the Concubine. The environments are all nice enough to look at, but you kind of wonder why every region has vines for you to hang on, or broken pillars jutting from the ground or ceiling. The Prince is an entertaining character, if nothing else. His jokes are hit or miss, but you at least stay relatively interested in what he has to say. Elika is dull and monotone most of the time, so she's irritating to me. |
Absolutely digging this game. I got to play it briefly at the GameStop Vendor Show in September and I was blown away by the amount of polish the game already had, especially considering it had only recently been announced. By the way, lovin' the "let's announce this game until it's closer to being released" philosophy. Makes the wait easier.
At first I wasn't too keen on the idea of using Uncharted's Nathan Drake's (voiced by the talented Nolan North) personality for the Prince, but it's starting to get a lot better. Growing accustomed to his smartassery. The gameplay though is so smooth, Elika's never a bother, and movement and acrobatics are a cinch. Additional Spam: Oh, and this game should be the reason why developers go back to cel-shading. Seriously, this game wouldn't look or run nearly as good in 3D. |
I got this game recently, and I'd have to agree: It's at times repetitive, but the overworld is quite beautiful to look at. I was bummed by lack of Sands of Time difficulty (or even the classic PoP difficulty), but exploring every inch of the game area makes up for it.
The other thing I was somewhat annoyed by was the fact that there was no punishment for incorrectly timed jumps, although when I shake off the stigma of the last generation PoP games, this new "Elika will save you!" system really works well with the new design philosophy. Well worth a play through. Also, <3 the new combat system. |

There's still a failure state, they just removed the screen fading to black and stuff like running back to where you started.
One could argue whether that's a good philosophy or not; after all, a sense of danger adds tension to an experience, which potentially makes it more gripping. But not all games are going for that. I've yet to play it myself, so I can't comment on whether it's working in this instance or not. |

Preposterous. I say you may not have deliberated at all.
The game looks interesting, but I think that there seems to be a trend with video games costing 60 dollars but having content that probably doesn't justify that price. I'm iffy about Prince of Persia mostly because I see a lot of comparisons to Assassin's Creed and I just couldn't get into that game. I hear the gem of this game is its story/presentation, but at the moment I just can't see myself dropping coin until a price drop. |
It's the Assassin's Creed engine heavily modified. There's a sense of acrobatics that's the same, but it doesn't really control the same way. The environments aren't really the same, either.
But yeah, for you, I'd wait for a price drop. |
I love this game sooo much, it has the sands of time feeling, all warm and fuzzy. Dont mind the streamlined platforming, the game is enjoyable and fun and the Elika system removes any headaches of the platforming.
The game is also gorgeous, only thing I slightly dislike is the Prince once liners.. the rest is <333 |

The game has great visuals and nice platforming. I like the character design very much, but I can't stand the prince's voice and attitude. It's freaking horrible and so out of place it hurts to listen to it. Oh wait that's how they spoke in ancient persia.

I loved almost everything about this game. The only thing I wished was different was that there was more banter between Elika and the prince, I love the stuff that gets said when you stop and talk to Elika, I just wish more of it was in the game as you travel because it's a beautiful gem that you can potentially skip right over.
Also, I hear a lot of people complaining on other forums and in other mediums about the whole "Elika saves you when you fall, so there's no downside to not making a jump, there is no penalty." maybe it's just me but thats something that always infuriated me when I played games. For whatever reason a button press did something it shouldn't have, or didn't go through at all, which would lead you to die. Which would then throw you into a "Game Over" screen, and you'd have to go through a loading screen to start back off where you left-off. This one gives you a clean little animation and you start where you left off, so you spend more time playing the game no matter your skill level, than you do trying to bend the controller. Another thing I think this game does beautifully is combat. Sure there's not a whole lot of variations, but it is what it should be in these games, fast and simple. Where your random encounters, the easiest thing to do is make it to the enemies spawn as fast as possible to hit it before it spawns(beautiful by the way), or push the enemy to the edge of the ring and deliver a single hit kill attack, ending the boring combat and getting back to the fun platforming. |
