Capcom vs. Tatsunoko - 2nd Game about Faggots and Time Travel

As out of left field Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe was (and seeing as how I couldn't care less about that game), Capcom throws us a surprise curve ball courtesy of popo187 from Shoryuken's forums. These are apparently scans from an upcoming Famitsu:

You might be asking yourself, "what the fuck is Tatsunoko?" Wait... you probably aren't because "lol, anime." For those not up to speed, Tatsunoko Productions are the folks who did Gatchaman, Speed Racer/Mach Go, Go, Go!, Tekkaman, Karas, Casshern, Mospeda... basically, a lot of cool shit.

I'm pretty pumped, though that's probably because Gatchaman and Tekkaman Blade are two series I was quite fond of as a child. And this also means they can do something with Karas outside of INCOHERENT PLOT. We are all winners here, folks.

Commence speculating about the cast as seeds of your complete and utter disappointment are sown into the internets.

I wonder if Komugi Nakahara will show up....

Either way I probably wont be touching this unless I get an arcade dump or wait for an inevitable (import) PS3 release to avoid a licensing nightmare.

At least we'll have quality sprites since they are done by the magnificent Arc System (Guilty Gear X).

Rotorblade May 21, 2008 11:04 AM

Oh, the licensing nightmare seems to be a definite "Anywhere but Japan-Land" killer as far as release elsewhere is concerned. This really is the year for fighting games, though, I swear.

Edit:

And I just realized that these guys did Samurai Pizza Cats. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOUR MOTHERFUCKERS REJOICE.

Django! May 21, 2008 11:10 AM

Is it PS3 only?

Rotorblade May 21, 2008 11:11 AM

I don't see the point of a 360 release unless it makes it overseas in comparison to a Japanese market. But... quite honestly, I couldn't tell you. Arcade release is a given and that's all we have to work with other than greasy fan speculation. Mmm.... greasy fan speculation *garrrrrghhghghhhhh*.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Runa from Soul Taker would be fun.

I'm hoping that's all they do. Sengoku Basara X, the Arc-developed Capcom fighter, felt more like an Arc fighting game than a Capcom one. I like Arc's games, but their systems get a little boring after a while.

Apparently games like these do pretty well on the 360. It's all relative, though.

Still funny that the 360 is the "hardcore" system in good ole' Japan.

chato May 21, 2008 11:39 AM

Woo. So this makes it the 11th announced fighter (probably won't come out in 2008.. ) I've heard. I admit as well that it looks interesting and I never really talk shit unless I play it first so.. Capcom has alot of characters they didn't dish out in the past. Perhaps this is a perfect apology for releasing such a horrible but playable fighter like Capcom Fighting Jam.

Wow, the first time I see a new fighting scan without Ryu being in it all the fuckin time. Good form.

Manny Biggz May 21, 2008 11:42 AM

Let's see if Capcom has the balls to apply a new engine to it. I wouldn't mind seeing the Marvel vs engine come back either though.

Rotorblade May 21, 2008 11:56 AM

I just sincerely hope it isn't ASW's engine, because Hokuto no Ken is fucking boring and Basara X was an atrocity from a mechanic standpoint. The versus engine would not be a bad thing at all in comparison.

Looks 2.5Dish. I want to see it in motion, that's for sure.

chato May 21, 2008 07:52 PM

Well I guess I was wrong about the Ryu thing >.>. Anyway I like it so far but that one pic with Ryu. That background reminds me of Megaman legends O.o.

Rotorblade May 21, 2008 07:53 PM

That's because that's the Bonne symbol on that building and thus it is a Megaman Legends stage, chief.

^-^ May 21, 2008 08:07 PM

Oh man, I cannot wait to see this one.

When I first heard of it, I was like, "Speed Racer vs Ryu!"

I'm sorry. Did you just tell me I can play Speedy in a game that isn't MUGEN?

*signs up*

Rotorblade May 21, 2008 08:50 PM

That's assuming anyone from Samurai Pizza Cats makes it in, not sure how "teh populars" it is in Japan or if they'd put anyone in from it. I've already got Ken from Gatchaman and Casshern. Strider or any number of Mega Man characters from Capcom and I'm pretty much satisfied with the cast.

It better fucking be "teh populars" in moonland. It's "teh awsum" beyond internet speak's ability to get across. I want Bad Bird, damnit!

Rotorblade May 21, 2008 08:57 PM

You will only be disappointed! DISAPPOINTED!

Honestly, Tatsunoko being the cross over people this time is just a bonus for me. Fact is, this is another freaking versus game. It's like my childhood just went "RESURRECTION!!"

There's been a lot of that lately. But yeah, either way I'm fairly jazzed for this one. A lot of chance for awesome.

^-^ May 21, 2008 10:30 PM

Lets hope they don't take us for a ride, Denicalis.

I'm assuming he means a Capcom vs fighting game. Last one was CVS2, which I think came out around 2001/2002. Of course, if we're talking about the Marvel vs engine here, Marvel vs Capcom 2 came out around 1999.

With the characters that Tatsunoko has to offer, I can see the Marvel vs engine working very well. They made Servbot work (somehow) so I don't see how the pizza cats cannot fit in here. I'm just glad to see that there seems to be a big attempt at getting the fighting game genre's popularity back on track.

Dizzy May 22, 2008 11:18 AM

MVC system pretty much confirmed...Famitsu (lot of pics in there).

Damn! Those lightning effects looks good.

Rotorblade May 22, 2008 11:18 AM

Edit: OUTSPONDED! Grargh, Dizzy.

Actual screens, and it is 2.5D. That has to be Shinkiro's best work to date as far as those illustrations are concerned. Chun-Li is red hot in that illustration, it's sick.

Manny Biggz May 22, 2008 11:30 AM

Now this is starting to look awesome! Can't wait for some fun and frantic, but horribly imbalanced gameplay.

Just gotta hope that higher level play has as much play variety as MVC2's.

Golfdish from Hell May 22, 2008 01:00 PM

Wow...I'm still soaking in Guitar Hero IV information, but this is probably the most excited I've been for a videogame in years. 360 release, PLEASE!

Rockman vs Speed Racer. MAKE IT HAPPEN!
