How to change owners name on laptop?
I have a laptop that I need to change the owners name to another person, how can I do this. By this I mean "Bobs My Documents" to "Johns My Documents", along with the Vista start up screen to say John instead of Bob. John and Bob are examples only. When I got the computer 4 months ago I put my name into the computer when it first booted up. Now I need to change that name to another name. Should I just reformat the laptop?
Thanks! |
Why don't you simply create an additional user?

If you're giving the laptop away or selling it, you should always reformat. Otherwise, like russ said - just add another user.

Is there a way to just change the registry from Bob to John. I am not selling it. The computer will be used on university campus for class.
this is the computer Compaq Presario A916NR Notebook PC. Where can I buy a spare battery for this computer , because HP does not sell the 6 cell anymore? Can I buy a 12 cell and put it in? |
Not advisable to hack the registry to change the name. You can always effect the changes in the User Accounts applet in Control Panel, but it will not change the name already in \Documents and Settings.
I suggest you create another user. |
only way to do it is create another account
