Ossuary Thread V2

Hi! On a former iteration of the board, I made a thread similar to this, but it was closed for unknown reasons. Hopefully more maturity and restraint will be shown this time and we can all have an edifying discussion.

The topic of this thread is: Ossuaries. Specifically:

* What are your favorite ossuaries?

* Have you ever seen an ossuary in person?

* What are your general thoughts on the topic of ossuaries?

I personally find a lot of beauty in ossuaries, but I can understand why others might consider them offensive. Of course, quite a lot depends upon the level of craftsmanship and forethought put to use in assembling the ossuary. What do you think?

Christ, I had to look up the word before I even knew what you were talking about. Might be why two and a half hours have passed without a reply.

I've honestly never seen one. I'm wondering when you have?

I've never seen an ossuary - but I teach a human anatomy class and there are a ton of bones in the morgue (+ cadavres and pieces of cadavres). I have a bad habit of pricking myself with human ribs . . .

I don't find ossuaries particular offensive as it is somewhat unnerving. You're looking at once was a live person here.
Even in video games and the like I don't like my character going near them.
So for the record, I've not looked at a cadavear/ossuary before in person.

God dammit Minion, my browser at work is getting raped to the bone. LOL :tpg:

I can't say I've had enough experience with ossuaries to have a preference in their form. I do think some mausoleums are quite fascinating however, on an aesthetic level. A lot of care goes into their creation. That sort of dedicated masonry is growing increasingly rare.

But they certainly don't creep me out at all. I actually find cemetaries to be rather tranquil and pleasant. It may be a bit more shocking to find someone's bones being kept anyplace else, but I doubt it would bother me much. It's not like they're a threat to anything.
