Resident Evil/Biohazard 2 (PC) Re-released!

Whoa!

I just read Japan have just had RE2 re-released on PC with uncompressed FMV's and XP support!!! Anyone have ANY news on where to get this or if it's due for the USA soon!?

Where: well probably Japan.

U.S.A.?: a torrent isn't far behind is my guess.

Erocental Mar 30, 2006 05:57 PM

Ahhhh yeah well I can't go to Japan unfortunately! ^^;

I did read somewhere there was the option to play the English version somewhere too... I wouldn't know how to find that out though. I checked Play-Asia.com but it's sold out which sucks! =D

I heard that Capcom will release Devil May Cry 3 or something. (same with the onimusha warriors what what ever the game is called.)

Who cares. Resident Evil 2 is like $10 on several different consoles (PSX, Gamecube, Dreamcast) and can be emulated on even older computers for free.

Uncompressed FMVs? They don't even look good by today's standards. Compare Leon's bony face to the handsome hunk that he is in Resident Evil 4.

Maybe the RE2 for PC is... with up-to-date graphics?

RYU Mar 31, 2006 07:08 PM

but RE1 & RE2 released on PC ,there FMV's and XP support why release it again???!!!!

there is maybe a possibility that the graphics are enhanced with some extras.
i mean why re-release a game ages old so suddenly.:doggy:

Because the original PC version has issues running on WindowsXP and many, many people kept begging for a patch update to make it work so they re-released the game with a couple of perks to please these people. I'd buy it (hey, $10, why not?) if it is released here. Otherwise I might download it.

Wait... any informations about releasing to North America?

All three Resident Evil games hit the crapper when XP came out. Then again a lot of games quit working properly when Xp came out.

Resident Evil 2 can be played on XP SP2 if you saved it to it's own directory and enabled the windows 98 compatibility mode. Resident Evil 1 seems to be working for some while others the install screen crashes which appears to be a compatibility issue as well. Resident Evil 3 had problems to begin with but it does work on Xp.. the characters just look like they're under water and their faces float around the frame even when they're not moving..

So yeah.. the games did need to be re-released and tweaked.. I'm just hoping whatever they did to get them to work right on Xp carries over to Vista.

I actually bought a copy of RE2 two weeks ago. The graphics are actually pretty good for their age.

When they ported it originally they optimized the characters somewhat but they totally ignored the background and the items you interact with. So they look choppy in other words. I'm assuming those could be cleaned up a tad in a re-release. However I have no idea how these re-releases look. The screenshots are tiny and its hard to see any kind of improvement.

Totally agreed with the earlier post that the FMVs were hideous and no amount of decompression is going to fix that. Uncompressing the FMVs was just something they decided to do to justify re-releasing the game, obviously. The only reason they really needed, though, was that it didn't work and people wanted to play it on XP. I'm usually a console person but if I can play a game on the PC and it not be an absolutely terrible port (*cough* Grandia II *cough*) then I'd prefer to play it that way. I think a lot of people with tolerably decent PCs feel the same way.
