Hardware Identification Help

In the following months - some friends of mine will be "assisting in a project to restore and archive a large amount of historical data from Origin Systems" and Electronic Arts. Can anyone here ID either of the following storage units and the machines they go to?

This first is from the Exabyte Mammoth Drive which is obviously a tape drive. They were pretty common back in the day.

And the second one, holy crap that's from an IBM central mainframe but it's going to be pretty damn hard to find out which units will actually run it because it depends on the density of the tape. Is there any manufacturing numbers or IDs anywhere on that thing?

Someone suggested its a "9-track tape which was sold in three capacities (21 MB/45 MB/170 MB)"

I don't even know if hes right though.
