Down 66-0 in Two Innings
Normally, I'd put news posts in General Discussion. However, there's nothing discussion-worthy about this, so I'll just post this here for your point-and-laugh pleasure:
Source: Japan baseball team hits 66 runs in two innings - Yahoo! News Japan baseball team hits 66 runs in two innings TOKYO (Reuters) - A Japanese high school pleaded for a regional game to be abandoned after surrendering 66 runs in less than two innings, local media reported on Thursday. The coach of Kawamoto technical high school threw in the towel to spare his pitcher's arm with his team losing 66-0 with just one batter out in the bottom of the second. The hapless hurler had already sent down over 250 pitches, allowing 26 runs in the first inning and 40 in the second before Kawamoto asked for mercy. "At that pace the pitcher would have thrown around 500 pitches in four innings," Kawamoto's coach was quoted as saying. "There was a danger he could get injured." Opponents Shunshukan were officially credited with a 9-0 victory, giving the scoreline a tinge of respectability for the luckless Kawamoto school. All I can say is, :tpg: That's one hell of a pitcher (guess they don't have any reserves!) |
Stealing my links that I posted in chat, huh? HUH?! J/K.
Funny stuff. I am just trying to imagine the 'pep talk' given to the pitcher. Or the team. |

Omigod. The futility of it boggles the mind. How the hell do you give up 66 runs in a baseball game before the third inning?

See in baseball, you have to get three guys out to end an inning. So if one team is REALLY bad and one team is REALLY good, this can lead to problems.
A competitive little league team I played on when I was 16 used to play exhibition games against rec teams, you know, invite the little urchins out to the nice ball park and let them get a taste of what it's like when you don't suck at life, and all the nice things they'll never have (lol poor people). Anyway, we used to run up 15 run innings from time to time. Games rarely lasted out of the 4th. A personal favourite memory was some poor relief pitcher who came out to the bases loaded and promptly gave up a grand slam. And then 6 back to back jacks. So there were literally back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back homeruns. The 8th guy hit a long double off the wall. Pitching to them was even funnier. Anything with a break? No idea what to do with it. |
Wow. That is pretty horrible. They should have ended after the 1st inning, because odds are, that there was no way in hell that they would comeback.

BUT... 66 RUNS. Apparently this particular league didn't enforce run limits. A nice day to pad one's stats, anyways. Quote:
