Worst GFF Fanfiction: Stop Sign vs. nuttyturnip

Round 1: Stop Sign vs. nuttyturnip

See this thread for details. Read both stories, and vote for which one you think is the absolute worst, the one that captures the spirit of bad fanfiction. The winner moves on to the final round to compete against the winner of the second bracket.

Entry #1: Redemption

Entry #2: Super Smash Bros: Iceman

Props for the cliffhanger ending to whoever wrote entry number 2. I just can't wait to know how it unfolds. :big blue eyes:

Man, both of these are pretty awful, but I'm going to lean towards #2 for how self-serious its trying to be, which is a QUALITY trait of a lot of awful fan fiction.

#1 could have benefited from being a bit longer, but it was funny in its own way too.

Super Smash Bros: Iceman is everything I would want in bad fanfiction, and then some.

Misogynyst Gynecologist Apr 10, 2008 07:07 PM

Both of these try too hard to be awful.

Whereas you possess a God-given talent.

I'm a little torn on this match-up. Redemption was much more enjoyable, but I suppose I'll vote for Iceman since it reads more like a traditionally bad fanfic.

I can't hear you over your breathing, Darth Vader.

James Earl Jones is nothing short of awesometacular.

Compliment accepted!

I am less intelligent merely for having read these entries; however, while #1 only reeked of horrible writing, #2 invoked physical nausea and thus gets my vote.

I loved the Iceman fanfic because a conscious effort was made to encapsulate all facets of the terrible writing found online. It had everything, a Japanese main character, intentionally stupid misspellings, failed attempts at eloquence, and shameless plagiarism from well known literary sources (at least within nerd circles).

The satire is so accurate that I can't help but think that author actually searches these things out and reads them on the net. Shame on him.

Entry #1 just seems like a bad attempt at writing bad fanfiction, while Entry #2 actually does seem like bad fanfiction. I honestly didn't enjoy either of them, even from a 'so bad it's good' perspective, but I definitely have to give it up to the second one for being in the vein of truly bad fanfiction.

Zergrinch Apr 14, 2008 07:48 AM

The second one was absolutely terrible with all the grammatical and spelling errors.

Not to mention a healthy smattering of exclamation points.

My vote goes to No. 2.

By a vote of 17-1, Stop Sign is the winner of this bracket (thanks for the pity vote, Xard). He will face off against the winner in the other bracket in 3 weeks' time (1 week to vote for the other bracket, then 2 weeks to give both writers a chance to draft a story).
