Sigma Harmonics
I somehow stumbled on this game for Nintendo DS and was delighted to hear that Hamauzu is in it. Post everything you know from this game and the music to get the information rolling. Too bad I don't have/want a Nintendo DS.
"Square Enix has just unveiled an entirely new project in the Japanese magazine Famitsu: it is Sigma Harmonics, a mix of adventure game and RPG for the Nintendo DS. The game is currently developed by former Dirge of Cerberus staffers, most particularly director Hiroki Chiba, character designer Yusaku Nakaaki... and music composer Masashi Hamauzu ! That's right, he is not only working on Final Fantasy XIII, fortunately. This is all we know at the present moment, but this is good news anyway. The game is 60% complete and should be out in Japan this summer. Aah, more Hamauzu..." (ref. squaremusic.blogspot.com) |
I read about this couple of days back. The website is up but it only has the story....
SIGMA HARMONICS ƒVƒOƒ} ƒn[ƒ‚ƒjƒNƒX Also saw some screens from famitsu wƒVƒOƒ} ƒn[ƒ‚ƒjƒNƒXxŠJ”.ŽÒƒCƒ“ƒ^ƒrƒ…[‘S•¶ŒfÚ - ƒtƒ@ƒ~’Ê.com from what I understand...it is definitely something to do with sound..I think the name of the family is Kuroage. They are the sound users. The game starts in the Kuroage Hall. I think that is place in the logo with a piano and the big clock....(ahehe my jap is bad..i could only translate some of them). It kinds reminds me of Persona 3 ..and Subarashiki Kono Sekai |
I didn't notice that piano earlier. Well, it certainly suits the music composer.

Looks like some sort of mystery game. You can go back in time in certain places. I haven't seen any battle pics yet. (If there will be battles...O.o). I wonder if this would be like some sort of visual novel or a new type of game like The World Ends with You.

Somehow I had completely missed this thread, so let me repeat the link I posted in the side project/Oolong Tea thread.
Namely...my recording of the Sigma Harmonics website music. Lovely, lovely. :) MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service |
Thanks again for the rip. As we already said, there is a strong FFX vibe in this first sample, and not only because of the clock ticking (Thunder Plains, anyone?). The chords also sound very much like Dirge of Cerberus...
Man, I REALLY can't wait for the soundtrack! :tpg: |

To be honest I wasn't really taken by the piece. It sounded too synthesized and there weren't any interesting chords or melodies.

However, assuming that Ryo Yamazaki is behind the synthesizer programming per usual, let us remember what wonders he worked back in the pre-streaming days on things such as SaGa Frontier II, Chrono Cross, and Kingdom Hearts. I'm pretty confident that he'll squeeze everything he can out of the hardware. |

Looks like SQUENIX is experimenting with new types of games on the DS. Subarashiki, Sigma Harmonics and Nanatsu no Geemu are their new ones I think. Subrashiki is only one that has been released. If I read the article correctly....the lead character is Sigma Kuroage. His family has the ability to use sound. Something Intonation/Sound Inspection(??). He has two abilities called Time Re-play(?) and Time Spinning(?). His partner's name is Neon. Shimizu (a descendant of the Kuroage), Ume (Shimizu's mom), Keiko (Shimizu'z wife). There is also something about some sort of demon. |
I do beleive you''l be interested in the following My Stuff thread right here...

I love this score so far! Can't wait for its release :)!

It's out :D! Anyone listen to it yet? It's on the short side, but it is great music nonetheless. There are only fifteen tracks that are longer than 2 minutes, but I must say that Hamauzu did exceed in giving his fans a taste until FFXIII is released! I want more :D!
|
just like josh said, the tracks are just too short, I'm surprised there is track called dance of orangutan, weird title but very enjoyable. My favorite track so far is Hope Given (dance of dog's howl). some tracks remind me to he re-using motiffs on SF 2, but many are new, so I think it's fair.
