Mixing cereals
Who does it? I've done it all my life (my entire family does for that matter) but I'm told this is actually relatively deviant behavior.
So out with it: who else here is a cereal rapist. |
Well it's an unconventional concept in my li'l world of breakfasts, but yeah, I do it on occasion. But when I do combine, it isn't like "Ho humm I'm mixin' my cereals~" it's more like "HOLY SHIT I CAN'T BELIEVE I'M DOING THIS I hope no one's watching." :rr:
|
I don't. I like to eat one thing at a time, even when eating full meals. I tried it once at the word of a friend who said it was pretty tasty, I was sorely disappointed.
|
Thinking about it, I've never actually done that... But Resses Peanut Butter Crunch... Doesn't that already have chocolate puffs in there?
|
I only mix when there's just a little bit left in one box.
And you do have to think about what cereals will mix well. You can't really have Fruity Pebbles with Cinnamon Toast Crunch. |

Also, when I see people mixing like seven different cereals together, all I can think of is the Patton Oswalt bit on the KFC famous bowls.
Failure pile in a sadness bowl. |
Any cereal versus Cinnamon Grahams. Especially Sugar Puffs. Some said it was far too sweet for normal mouths to handle. I beg to differ.

That said, I do usually follow a template of some sort when I'm preparing my multi-tiered monstrosities. On the bottom is always 1/3 to 1/2 bowl of corn flakes; it's a relatively tame cereal and I use it as the base to help neutralize the overpowering sweetness of the other stuff. Then I add a layer of wheat/bran flakes for texture and to pretend that some part of my breakfast is actually healthy. I'll put in some toasted oats too if they're available. Then comes one or two sweet cereals; anything and everything goes. After that, an optional layer of rice cereal for the sound effects. And that's pretty much it. Banana/peanuts/raisins/granola toppings optional. Also one time I tried ice cream instead of milk. I think I saw God. |
Fruit loops and lucky charms I do on occasion. Actually quite good.

I'm not into all these fancy cereals with fruit and chocolate either though. They taste fine, it's just not what I'm looking for first thing. |
My mother-in-law came home from the store one day when we were living with her and started mixing Cheerios with Honey Nut Cheerios, not weird at all but...yeah.
I have never even bought Reese's Puffs. Are they any good? On the subject of cereal I l-o-v-e putting cut up bananas in my cereal. It is sooo good! |

For me at least, I love Resse's Puffs. :3: |
When I was like 4 or 5, I knew that rice-krispies and Special-K both made crackeling sounds, so I tried mixing them together to make a super-poping cereal. Turns out I was wrong.
|
I haven't had much cereal lately, but whenever I do, I always mix cereals if I can. Hooray for experimentation!
I do the same thing with soda. "I don't feel like Sprite today. Maybe Sprite, Coke, and Hawaiian punch! Oh! I can't forget the splash of water!" =) |
Now that's just disgusting. ;)

More on topic though, I do mix my cereals when ( like Jazz was saying) they get near the end of the box. One thing that is strange about bottom-of-the-box cereals is that they almost always house that powdery mixture in the bottom of the bag that melds with the milk and the powder from the other cereal to form a strange cereal-paste. Sometimes, though visually repellent, it tastes pretty nice. Any thoughts? |
On the rare occasion I have been known to mixing cheerios with fruit loops. That is as close to mixing as I have got.
Sorry I am not more exciting in that category... :( |
I just tried mixing in a scoop of Haagen-Dazs (Bailey's, but I imagine most flavors would work).
It was good. |
Somehow I couldn't get myself to like Fruit Loops..they taste a tad bit too artificial for me. Anyway, no, I don't usually mix cereals unless they get to the end of the box (what Jazz and J-man said). The thought never crossed my mind, and I'd prefer to eat something one at a time. Maybe I'll mix some Frosties and Uncle Toby's since they're the only ones I have now.

I just tried a new mix a couple days ago, because we were at the bottom of both a box of Cinnamon Life cereal and a box of Lucky Charms. It was interesting for sure, because the quick-to-get-saturatedness of the Life and the lack thereof in the Lucky Charms was really weird to eat at the same time. The Life would always sort of wrap around and consume the charms. The actual marshmallow charms in the cereal always seem to turn my milk green as well, so there's an added bonus. I'd rate it an 7.5-8/10

I don't eat a lot of cold cereal, but I have to say that I've never really thought about doing this. I mean, suicide Coke is pretty common, but Suicide Cereal? Interesting.
I might just try to combine my roommate's apple O's with her bran flakes tomorrow... |
I do it a lot in college. It's tempting when you want two cereals at once, like frosted flakes and chex, or total with anything sweet. Or like a "healthy" cereal with a not so healthy one.
I do it with sodas too. Sprite and OJ is good. |
Sprite with ANYTHING is good. :)
