I hate Daylight Savings Time so hard

In one week (March 9th), us sad sack Americans with our shitty time changing ideals have to set our clocks forward and lose an hour of sleep. FUCK!

I remember working 3rd shift for a DST switch, and it was hell. In the fall I had to work an extra hour, which meant stocking shelves and putting up with irate night owls at the grocery store I was working at the time. Then the next spring I lost an hour of work, but because I still had to put up as much stock as normal I had to rush during the last hour to keep in line with my normal nights.

Luckily I don't work nights anymore, but seeing as how Sundays are my only day to sleep in during this semester I'm really not looking forward to next week.

Who else hates this constant time switching, be it logical or not?

The Wise Vivi Mar 2, 2008 03:47 PM

I don't mind it. I like it when the clock goes back in the fall, as I get the feeling that there is an extra hour of time, everything feels slow for a while. However, I don't mind DST either because that means more sunlight up here in Canada and another sign it is spring.

Same here. I like it when there is more daylight. It makes the day feel longer.

I regularly work with people from Tokyo, so their 9AM starts at our 4PM PST. Which means when I'm working here out of California, I start getting calls from Tokyo everyday around 3PM~5PM, usually resulting in more work for me and not being able to go home at a decent hour. Once DST kicks in, it'll be 5PM and time for me to go home once the Tokyo people start arriving at their office at 9AM, so I have a better chance of dashing out of the office while it's still bright outside. :)

Little Shithead Mar 2, 2008 04:13 PM

I don't lose any sleep.

The time change just so happens to occur during the beginning of my spring break, so I'm not going to do a lot of "normal" sleep.

Bernard Black Mar 2, 2008 04:29 PM

I would normally say I prefer the clocks going back but this year I think I'll prefer the absence of one hour from my life. I'm not partial to sunlight anyway, especially since I look like such a tit in sunglasses.

guyinrubbersuit Mar 2, 2008 05:02 PM

I don't have to deal with it. Though I do hate how in the fall all the shows are pushed back an hour or so. Why can't they just stay the same for Arizonans?

Gechmir Mar 2, 2008 06:17 PM

Dunno if they're going to honor DST out here, so loool ='D Sup Africa sailin' da high seas.

Chaotic Mar 2, 2008 06:18 PM

That means I lose an hour of free play in ITG at the arcade near me and an hour less time to play Brawl. :gonk:

mortis Mar 2, 2008 11:39 PM

I haven't been affected by it for the last few years. The new daylight savings dates though throw me a bit which IS annoying.

I poked it and it made a sad sound Mar 2, 2008 11:47 PM

I love it when we switch the clocks ahead. That means more daylight time to play and work!

When I worked the overnight shift at the hotel, it was an additional hour which they had to pay me for, and I never minded.

One hour lost in sleep - so what? Make up for it just one night and go to bed early! Enjoy the added daylight time to come!

PiccoloNamek Mar 3, 2008 12:07 AM

Enjoying the added daylight isn't an option when you work the night shift... I'm sad to be reminded that I have to reset my clock soon... I already have enough sleeping problems without having to adjust my schedule to compensate for the change.

Dark Nation Mar 3, 2008 12:38 AM

Move to Phoenix, we don't have it here, nor do we need to have it.

Ayos Mar 3, 2008 12:58 AM

Wait... you live in Phoenix, DN? Gotta come visit you when I visit my friend. He moved down there when summer ended, haven't seen him much since.

Anyhoo, I love DST. I hate switching OUT of it. Switching to it doesn't bother me in the least. I think we should all just set our clocks ahead an hour and leave it for the rest of eternity.

Identity Crisis Mar 3, 2008 01:13 AM

Even if the DST switch didn't occur in the middle of my Spring Break, I don't really mind losing the hour of sleep. I can go a day with little to no sleep. Occasionally forgetting to reset my clocks and thus missing out on important things to do by an hour is the only thing I find irksome about the shift.

If not just for the daylight, I simply like the fact that as a nation we're conserving millions of dollars worth of energy bills.

Usually I don't really care about daylight saving time changes, but this one is kinda bothersome. I didn't reserve a copy of Smash Bros., and I don't plan on going to any of those midnight sale events, so I pretty much need to get to the store when it opens the next day to get a copy. With the daylights saving switch, I'll have to wake up another hour early ;_;. [/geek]

Frozen Memories Mar 5, 2008 10:53 PM

I don't usually mind the change itself, but, I'm quite forgetful to change my clocks. Which, a lot of times, leads to irate managers. >.>"

Animechanic Mar 5, 2008 10:59 PM

Fortunately for me, my alarm clock automatically adjusts for DST. Which is fortunate, because I doubt I would ever remember on my own.

Unfortunately, I used to live in Arizona, and I used the same clock back then. So this clock would automatically set itself off an hour every time DST came or went.

Oh, and I still hate losing an hour of sleep. With you on that one.

Also, shout out to a fellow desert rat. Sup' DN, I was born and raised in Tucson.

Talec Mar 6, 2008 12:48 AM

Gah, that's next week? :[

On the plus side, that means I won't have to mentally adjust my watch's time to be correct...

In (central) Europe we have that time change thing as well and it going on my nerves. This or next year EU is debating about and I hope they kick that shit out.

Does your clock automatically sync with the world clock or something?

Turns out that might not be necessarily true.

Seriously the whole gain one hour and lose one hour is just a shift in the division of time. The actual daylight time remains constant. And I'm quite skeptical of DST actually saving any energy.

Pretty much every developed country does it. We call it British Summer Time here and every year people go on that we should keep it pushed forward come autumn. Personally I don't give a fuck, it makes no difference to me how light or dark it is in the evenings as street lighting is pretty widespread in the UK and I carry a small torch on me for out-in-the-coutryside-needing-light emergencies.
