Gears of War 2, still no Denise Richards shower scene :(

It's official (duh)

Glad they announced it, and even more glad that it's coming out this November. Any speculation as to what the story might be? Regardless, I'm pumped!

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Feb 20, 2008 03:20 PM

Hopefully they find a way to feasibly implement some form of client-side hit detection this time, otherwise multi will remain forever broken.

Co-op campaign should be just as awesome this time around though.

Wall Feces Feb 20, 2008 04:15 PM

All I care about is a longer campaign... Everything else can remain the same and I'll be perfectly content.

Lazyguy Feb 20, 2008 05:41 PM

I wonder where they will take the story, because with general ram dead where will fenix and his crew go this time. Will they go after the queen or what???

Contracts Feb 20, 2008 06:03 PM

I just want the multi-player fixed (as someone else mentioned) in the form of client side balance. No more "If your the host, your the best" which has plagued many of my avid multi player experiences online. However I could care less for story mode as I really hated the campaign in Gears of War, seemed so repetitive and boring.

Is this a rhetorical question or are you seriously unsure of the multitude of unresolved plot points the game could follow. I can never tell when people use that many question marks if they're just commenting and curious or if they're stupid.

Wait, you hated it, but it only SEEMED so repetitive and boring? So did you play it or not? O_o

The campaign was solid, fast paced, and fun. Short, and the boss fights were jokes, but the rest of it, not so bad.

Agreeing that multi needs some serious god damn fixes though, as far as implementation is concerned at least.

Hantei Feb 20, 2008 06:47 PM

Hell yes! About time they announced it, and sweet to hear that it's THIS November. As mentioned already a longer campaign is a must. Maybe even a 4 player co-op, that'd be neat to have (eg. the whole delta squad).

Tails Feb 20, 2008 07:32 PM

I don't care what they do to the multiplayer, so long as the Shotgun continues to be as awesome as it was in the first game.

russ Feb 20, 2008 08:03 PM

I don't care what they do to the shotgun, so long as I continue to be the only white dude in the room in multiplayer.

I played up until I had gotten underground and had to fight the Locust in that underground tower with Torque Bows. I found it really repetitive, I only played as long as I did since I was with a friend.

Heh, apparently chainsaw dueling is indeed something we'll be seeing in the game. This is gonna make multi much more interesting. I wonder how well it'll work in the campaign, heh, or rather how frustating it'll become to go for the quick kill.

Could make for some epic 1v1 fights in MP. I'm pretty sure we're gonna get some awesome duels in campaign now.

Slayer X Feb 25, 2008 12:30 AM

All I want for Gears 2 is client based hit detection. Then I'll be happy.

Kagosin Feb 25, 2008 06:45 AM

The few differences I would like to see in Gears 2 is:

-The whole 4 vs 4 thing made matches end so fast because of the small areas. They can make bigger maps and larger teams. They made UT. :p

-I wish they could tell the story and background a bit more unlike in the first one where it was "BAM! Fight!"

Hantei Feb 29, 2008 03:23 AM

DiMaggio pretty much confirms that Brumaks are in Gears 2. Can't say that I'm surprised by this, seeing as how 360 owners were denied the extra chapters involving the Brumak that the PC gamers got.

DiMaggio also reveals that Franklin is back, so this probably means another encounter with the stranded, perhaps more detail about his relationship with Dom, and most likely more story about the whereabouts of Maria. He went on to say there will be new weapons, characters, and beasts. Heh, all of which were pretty much stuff fans have come to expect.

Syndrome Feb 29, 2008 08:21 AM

Awesome. GoW had the funniest and best control scheme of all games on the 360, as well as a neat presentation. I have high hopes for the sequel, I hope they'll implement better online play.

Also as sprout said, longer campaign please.

Tagonist Mar 9, 2008 10:13 AM

Ah yes, Gears.
One of the games I've got a kind of love/hate relationship with.
Narrative-wise it behaved like one of the TV series in which every single episode is important. Just that you missed one or two and thus some things didn't make much of a sense.
Gameplay wise, it was one of the better games of late. I hope they improve balancing a bit, and maybe step away from the "you're only playing the real thing when you're playing the HARDCORE difficulty" approach. Though I really doubt they'll do the latter, seing to what audience the game is being pitched to.

A bit of a bump to this thread, which doesn't really deserve to have been dead so long. There's a new dev diary piece up talking about weapons in the new game, including the new weapons. Watch it on the official site, or:

YouTube Video

I'm actually getting quite excited about this game now, it's looking to be shaping up quite nicely. Definitely looking forward to doing some co-op and online stuff with people.

No. Hard Pass. Sep 18, 2008 02:32 AM

Region locked. Can only play other brits.

Omagnus promptly kills himself.

Omagnus promptly gets some friends in his own country. He's a real little boy now!

That aside, being as I'm three quarters through the first one at the moment (Playing co-op with another Brit as it happens) I'm rather excited about this. I can't see it ever being something I'd play much vs on but if the co-op is as fun as the first, I'm sold.

Omagnus has friends in his own country you cheeky sods, just not all of them are gamers, few that are are gamers to the same extent, and of those that do game a reasonable amount not many of them buy the same games as me. So shut it. (Though thinking on it, Gears 2 is probably a title a bunch of them will be getting).

Also, would much rather be stuck playing with only other Brits than only yanks.

Shin: It's worth noting that there will be a larger co-operative multiplayer mode called Horde, which is going to allow 5 people to take on waves of horde, which sounds like it could have potential.

Part of the fun is hearing Omagnus and Tails give each other shit online. It just won't be the same without that. :(

It was a joke, dude. The chances of this being region locked are pretty slim, to say non-existant.

The Horde mode sounds like Defend mode in the Ghost Recon games which can only be a good thing. Especially as the AI in the first Gears wasn't stupid enough to just keep running round a corner into a hail of bullets like the GR bad guys tend to.

That's what I liked about the Gears AI. They actually used the games cover system and other quirks to their advantage, when they weren't being cheap Torque Bow out of nowhere assholes, that is.
