cat6 network

Hey all,

I was wondering what I would have to switch to for an upgrade to a cat6 network.

I've got a Linksys Wireless Router WRT52GS or something like that, and a bunch of cat5 cable... I imagine I'm going to have to upgrade to cat6 cable, but will I have to upgrade the router?

Are you upgrading because you want gigabit speeds between the computers on your network? You don't need to upgrade your router to get gigabit between the PC's on your local network. Assuming you already have gigabit network adapters on your computers, all you need to do is add a gigabit switch and use Cat 5E cable for the connections (from each PC to the switch).

You might also want to ask yourself if the upgrade would be worth it, like if you transfer many large files and have hard drives fast enough to take advantage of the increased speed.

Check www.monoprice.com for cheap cables.
