missing rar file

I downloaded a movie which is rar'd into an archive consisting of 9 parts. Problem is part 9 is missing and I can't find it anywhere else.

Is there someway I can still extract the video from parts 1-8?????

Zergrinch Feb 20, 2008 11:18 AM

No.

Are you sure you absolutely positively can't find it anywhere else?

El Ray Fernando Feb 20, 2008 03:37 PM

Afraid so; I downloaded the file along time ago and the place where it was posted seems dead now, no update at all from the poster.

Sure there is.

7zip is deathly handy with this kinda stuff. You just have to extract it somewhere, and ignore the CRC error message. And then it should be played "properly" with some uncrappy software, say VLC or Mplayer Classic.

WinRAR can do that.

This will cut off the end of the movie though, or possibly even make the entire file corrupted.

You could recover the archive contents if you had the accompanying .par2 files, but it doesn't sound like you have those either.

Direct Downloaded archives maintain the regular streaming progression, even when splitted (Unlike Hash-sensitive protocols, say BitTorrent). File won't probably be corrupted, but it would remain -obviously- unfinished. You might have to check the last part on streaming websites, or ask for a reseed.

Correct, he'd just need to tick the "Keep broken file" option.

El Ray Fernando Feb 20, 2008 06:34 PM

You are correct knkwzrd in stating that I do not possess the .par files. It was downloaded from rapidshare so I cannot get it reseeded only reposted but chances are slim.

Anyways I'll see if 7zip will extract it; part 9 was the last part so only a very small portion of the file will be missing.
