Mouse of Pain ~
Kinda particular Help Desk thread, but I guess it still belongs here ...
I've started feeling pain in my typing fingers a few months ago. It's gotten worse by now and the full hand/wrist is starting to hurt as well. Did this happen to any of you ? Did you find a solution ? Do these weird ergonomic mouse thingies actually do any good ? |
My non-qualified opinion is that this may be carpal tunnel syndrome. I haven't had this problem, so I can't recommend anything specific, but here's a site you may find useful: How to Avoid Carpal Tunnel Syndrome | eHow.com.

You must be an extensive use of the mouse. Whenever I feel pain in my hand from using the mouse, I try to change position. When that fails, I use my other hand and try to rest the hurting hand.

Try to look up an ergonomic guide and adjust your working habits to what's more proper. I've found if I have to reach just six inches too far for my mouse I start to get really bad pains from my shoulder down to my fingers. Move it back towards myself a few inches and it's perfectly comfortable (same with height of the mouse relative to my shoulder).
You can also try doing various stretches now and then to help out with keeping your muscles in their best shape. I'm pretty sure you played the piano, so any sort of exercises you learned for that to keep your fingers from cramping up should help with typing. |
I don't think it's Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (lol Kid Koala) Aard, since I don't have any "numbness and tingling". Reading about it makes me think I should definitely go see a doctor though.
I've started doing that RR. Well, in the last hour ... I started with having my forearm rest on the desk instead having just my hand on it, and it already helps with the wrist. Pain in typing fingers won't go away though. I think it may have to be with being too nervous and typing too hard ... Bah. And no I never played the piano xD |
Oh, I could swear you were a musician along with all of the other Frenchies on the board. :(
Try using the tilt thing on your keyboard to either angle it up or lay it flat and typing like that for a while. Some people feel much more comfortable with it one way over another. |
