Creating and Using Disk Images
 

I've recently come into an old Dell PC notebook (for free). Every part of it works perfectly except for the CD/DVD drive, which is broken. It has USB ports, so I can easily download programs on my Mac and transfer them using my USB thumb drive.

Still, there are some CD's I'd like to install, and with no money for repairs I thought that I could make a disk image of the PC-formatted CD on my Mac and transfer it via USB to the PC, and then run the images and install the programs.

Is this possible? And, if so, what would be the best utility to use?

Should be perfectly possible to do, I'd imagine a tool like Daemon Tools or Alcohol 120% would be best since they should be able to both rip and mount the CD images.

I always use Alcohol 120% for this, since it creates a virtual cd/dvd-rom on which you can mount .iso files, amongst others I am sure.

If you're looking for a program to make a disk image in OS X, I'm not too sure. I'm sure a Google search would bring up some decent apps, though.

As for mounting the images in Windows, the above posts are probably the best suggestions. I personally prefer DAEMON Tools, but Alcohol 120% is just as reliable.
