2 Video Cards 1 Motherboard
Hello everyone,
My friend just recently gave me a XFX GeForce 7900 GS Video card. I already have a ATI 2900PRO installed but I do have a free PCI x16 slot available. I was wondering if anything would happen if I installed this card in the empty slot? Will it work normal or would I have to do anything. The reason why I ask is because 1 video card is ATI and the other is NVIDIA so I'm confused. |
What I know must have same video card to get result from 2 cards.if put ATI and the other one is NVIDIA will pc use one of them as to play games and display.

It depends on what you want. If you need more monitor connectors to run dual/triple/however many screens, you can use multiple video cards, even of different brands (although I've only mixed Intel/ATI and Intel/NVIDIA before; mixing ATI/Nvidia might have some unforseen driver conflicts - Google to be sure). If you're just looking for gaming performance, only put in a single card. I'm too out-of-date with the PC gaming world to know which is expected to be better, but my intuition says your Ati.

I'm not really looking for gaming...my ATI 2900Pro is used for main gaming purposes. I basically want to be able to use my other video card to run some performances on my other monitor then have my 1 video card split. The reason y pretty much is to have a game running on the main while somebody could lets say...browse the internet or whatever on the other

I tried on my own...didn't get very successful at all...I guess it created a HUGE conflict and my video didn't turn on anymore...the video only shows up on safe mode but in safe mode or in VGA mode my keyboard and mouse doesn't work...and I get a .INF error.
So i had to install Vista Ultimate due to the fact it doesn't really wipe out your hard drive but just puts all your files in windows.old folder. Backed up all my data to a external and about to re-install windows XP... So should I try again or just leave this video card out and call it quits keeping my 2900PRO alone inside my mobo? |
It's probably too late but... considering that ATI's drivers are fucking trash, yes, there ought to be conflicts.
