Golden Globes cancelled
Source
Due to the writer's strike, the Golden Globes award ceremony has been cancelled. They will still announce the winners the same day, but during an hour-long press conference. As much as I side with the writers on this strike, this is so lame. I really hope it doesn't affect the Oscars :( |
Watch no one outside of the movie industry give a fuck.

Probably... The Oscars being cancelled would be HUGE though. I like the Globes, so it sucks for me, but the Oscars are pretty much universally loved by this country.

I was preparing to post this topic days ago but stopped halfway through precisely for the reason knkwzrd "describes".
To clarify how the cancellation connects with the writers' strike, the reason the ceremony was cancelled is because television networks have decided not to broadcast the show. The reason for that is because the Screen Actor's Guild, the union which represents virtually every hollywood performer, has decided in support of the writers not to show up for the GG event, having stated early on that they will not cross the picket lines. No stars, no viewers, no Jacksons/Grants/Benjamins, no ceremony. An oscar cancellation would indeed be "HUGE". However (and I don't know the exact start date), Academy Awards viewer-ship has been declining a large amount over the years. A large fraction change the channels after the Red Carpet. Despite this, to decide not to show up and cross AMPAS (only Brando had the nuts) is definitely an invitation to fuck yourself over if you're in the business. I can't imagine its cancellation. To paraphrase Daniel Day Lewis (who will win the oscar this year, albeit for a film loved more by others than myself), when it comes to the showdown, will they really not be there? |
