StarCraft Ghost Indefinitely Postponed?

I just saw this:
http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/blizzar...ned-162934.php

There's no mention of it at Blizzard.com or Battle.net as of this posting, so maybe it's just a rumor? As much as I hate seeing it being delayed yet again it's probably for the best. We all know that the screenshots and gameplay footage were average at best, and with next-gen just around the corner, this game is bound to bomb in sales on current-gen systems.

Lukage Mar 25, 2006 07:57 PM

I thought it was finally going to be released next month? If this is true, there's no way it would be scrapped.

Dopefish Mar 25, 2006 08:16 PM

IGN had the same thing today.

Duke Nukem: The Delayer of Games Promised in the Prehistoric Ages?

Well Blizzard aren't really console developers...

Kaiten Mar 25, 2006 08:30 PM

Looks like we have another WarCraft: Adventures going on here. You can expect Blizzard to pull the plug on the game sometime in the next year (of course they could just decide to release a mediocre Blizzard game, which would seriously piss off the dozens of StarCraft fanboys hoping to have their StarCraft 2 wetdream come true).

xSummonerYUnax Mar 25, 2006 09:15 PM

I've been waiting for this game since...two years ago??

sabbey Mar 25, 2006 09:21 PM

Never was interested in it myself, but still sad new I guess... :(

Would have liked to at least played it once!

Dyne Mar 25, 2006 09:24 PM

Sup Worlds of Starcraft.

Actually, one of the reasons I respect Blizzard is that they've never released any crappy game just to get it over with and get cash in while fully knowing it sucked. Or if they did, it was overshadowed by their other, good games. I suppose we can expect the same thing with Ghost. Either they'll cancel it or get the thing done, and done well. Either way I don't mind. I would enjoy shredding some Zerg with a side dish of Protoss, but I'm not even sure I'd actually buy it if it'd came out.

Also, get started on Starcraft 2 you lazy bastards!

Yggdrasil Mar 25, 2006 10:15 PM

I've always knew that game was never going to come out. Its been "in development" for what? 3+ years I think? Each time they put out a release date they always retract the statement, then tell us to look forward to some new release date. They'll probably give us news on 4/1 that Ghost was just one big and long lasting April Fools joke.

JasonTerminator Mar 26, 2006 12:49 AM

Actually, I would not be surprised if Blizzard made a Worlds of Starcraft after they've milked the WoW teat enough.

And Diablo 3 is gonna play like WoW anyway, except with random dungeons.

Huzzah for Blizzard.

BlueMikey Mar 26, 2006 01:22 AM

You've got to wonder how much money Blizzard lost on this project. That and why they just couldn't get it right. I'm wondering if it was poor from a gameplay, story, environment, technical...I wonder why they can't release it.

Josiah Mar 26, 2006 02:01 AM

From what I've seen over the years, Blizzard's been known to delay their games a lot. I agree that it would be a shame if Ghost got scrapped entirely; I don't really see why they would do that. Surely it'd would disappoint a lot of people as others have said.

Delays aside, Blizzard does for the most part get it right when their games come out. We waited a long time for Diablo 2, a long time for Warcraft 3, but both games were and still are fantastic. I wouldn't be too surprised if this history repeats itself with Ghost.

Watts Mar 26, 2006 04:57 AM

Wasn't this game suppose to come out in '99? How many times has it been delayed? Sheesh, yet another Duke Nukem Forever.

SouthJag Mar 26, 2006 10:24 AM

Maybe I'm just instigating something based on my hopes, but what if Blizzard were delaying this title (at this point) in favor of Ghost being a launch PS3 title?

alkaline Mar 26, 2006 11:46 AM

Every year I've seen Starcraft: Ghost, it's been completely different than the last. First it was an awesome hybrid of action, light strategy and stealth. Years of "evolution" later, it's a mediocore looking shooter without a brain.

Any delay on this game is a good thing, especially this late in the console cycle. Ghost has the potential to be an awesome game, but only if Swinging Ape can stop dumbing it down.

nabhan Mar 26, 2006 01:48 PM

Is anyone really surprised?

Oh true.

Delays on top of delays for Ghost, then suddenly, out of nowhere, comes Starcraft 2. Surprise game of the millenium. Ever.

I'm actually somewhat surprised, since they pretty much bought Swinging Ape Studio just to have them make the game. Seems like it would be a waste of two years of work (in addition to the 2 years of work that had been put into the original version before they scrapped it). I don't know what else they'd have Swinging Ape do if they're going to give up on Starcraft Ghost, maybe a next gen Blackthorne?

Heisho-Ryuu Mar 26, 2006 07:01 PM

But if the story goes now to the Ghost adventures, when will Starcraft original storyline continue?
What will happen with the protoss/zerg hybrid Zeratul discovers in the bonus mission of the Zerg (Broodwar)?
Who the hell is Samir Duran (or whatever he is called)

Elixir Mar 27, 2006 07:48 PM

Not surprised. I mean, this is Blizzard. If the length between the Diablo 2 upgrades from 1.09 to 1.10 are any indication of their releases, this won't be out for at least another year.

By then it'll probably be cancelled indefinitely, as the next generation consoles will be out by then and nobody would be interested. Starcraft is a great game, and while people acknowledge that Ghost is in the pipeline, people are still hoping for Starcraft 2. I know I am.

Spyer Mar 27, 2006 08:27 PM

Damnit. Another good game we're going to have to wait. Why the hell did the Blizzard staff have to quit right when the game was at its good point! WHY??????????????????!

Elixir Mar 27, 2006 11:48 PM

Starcraft Ghost had a good point? All the footage of it I've seen has been shoddy, unfinished or just downright hilarious:

On the plus side, this means concentration on Starcraft 2 will become more thorough.

Monkey King Mar 28, 2006 09:52 AM

You mean concentration on Starcraft 2 will actually begin. Blizzard hasn't been doing any work at all on SC2, as far as I know. Most of their time seems to be spent counting the money they're making from World of Warcraft.
