2 in 1 NES/SNES Top Loading Console
I have been looking to buy an old SNES and an NES lately and I ran across these top loading consoles. What do you think about these 2 in 1 top loading consoles? I'd really like to go authentic... but these things are much cheaper, and much more convenient. If people here have had good experiences with them, I'll probably go with the 2 in 1. What are your experiences? Give me some feedback I can trust.

People don't have good experiences with famiclones.

Thank you for that, Skills.
On the other hand, christinajon has an FC Twin and she's had nothing but good things to say about it. As far as I know it's compatible with all her NES and SNES games and has never broken down on her, so I'd say that's a plus mark for those things. |
Hm, but the question is does that play games with special chips? LIke Megaman, Super Mario RPG, and Star Ocean?
|
Wow, I didn't even know those things existed.
My opinion is that you should get a PSP with custom firmware. NES, SNES, Genesis, even some N64 titles, but I guess it should be played on a TV. Anyways, if you can afford it you should give it a try. |

Most of these things cost about the same (or more) as it would cost to purchase a working SNES and/or NES. That old hardware is not expensive. The SNES is practically in-fucking-destructable. You can throw a lot shit at it and it'll continue trucking along. The NES is a little more flakey, sure. But test what you buy first and you're more than likely gonna be able to keep it alive longer than some poorly constructed ripoff. My comment still stands though, the things are notoriously unreliable for very good reasons. If there is one or two decent ones out there, there's a fuckload of very bad ones too, and this here fella is probably better off going with the real thing. It's not like it's price issue. |

Yeah, a PSP is a good idea for this. Or a Wii if you don't like portables.

It's nice to own the original game, though. I recently did that with Lufia II, thing is, most people won't bothre when you can get better quality for free. |

I thought everyone who had an HDTV knew this. |
Or, y'know, you could just help him find the thing he asked for. It's kind of rude to tell somebody that they actually want something completely different from the thing they asked for in the first place. If the man wants to sit down in front of a real NES with a real boxy controller in hand, don't tell him he's having his fun the wrong way.
Although, Deni, "the way it was meant to be played"? What does that make the Sega Nomad then, a cruel mockery of the Genesis? Is it somehow insulting to videogaming to play that rerelease of the original Metroid on Gameboy Advance? |
