Any credible online sites to purchase games?

Hi everyone,
First let me say, I won't buy from gamestop, EB, or ebay. Having that said, I'll continue on.

I'm usually busy with school stuff and work so I don't pay attention to game releases as often but I still browse the internet to see what's new from time to time. When I see a game I like I put it on my 'to buy and play' list. I only get about 2 games at a time because I know I won't be able to get through them all.

Anyway, most of the games on my list are old (earliest is about 6 months) and they aren't on shelves anymore in physical stores. I can only find it on online games stores such as gamequestdirect.com and gameexpress.com

I've never bought games from these sites but they were redirected from gamespot. That's credible for me but gamespot can't give me feedback. I want to hear more users' opinion and experience. Do these sites lie saying they have the game but then end up telling you it's backordered. Slow delivery?
Also, are there any online sites that you personally prefer and can recommend to me?

EDIT: I forgot to mention, I prefer new games over used games.

Why won't you buy from any of the three places mentioned?

Dark Nation Dec 18, 2007 01:13 PM

Amazon.com has worked well for me. Deepdiscountdvd.com also works very nicely, although their selection of game titles is small compared to other places. There ARE Discounts though!

So yeah, I'd check those out. Amazon.com in particular because you can create a Wish List, a Shopping List (To Buy Later) and if you start telling amazon which games you own, they can make recommendations for future titles.

Amazon's used section is wonderful.

Because I don't like hand-me-downs. I'm just one of those people who get a high off peeling the plastic wrap off a box. LOL (Oops, I guess I should've mentioned that sooner.)

I know there are some people on ebay who sell things brand new with the wrapper still on. I know there's a rating system and paypal system and it's really safe but I'm just not converted to that way of buying yet.

I've used both gamequestdirect.com and gameexpress.com and have had no problems with either of them. They tell you on the webpage for whatever game you're looking for whether or not it's in stock, so you shouldn't have any problems regarding backordering and such. Also, I think they only sell new games, so if that's your concern don't worry about it.

As for their service, they send you the typical confirmation email and stuff like that, and both sites' shipping was pretty fast, using only the standard rates. I got the games I ordered from both sites in less than two weeks, which is the same amount of time it would take at a place like Amazon.

And speaking of Amazon, I recommend going there as well if they have what you want. I've never bought anything used from them, but they have a pretty large selection of games, so you may even find a brand new copy of an older game. They are also pretty cheap, and you can also get free shipping from them with orders over $25, which I always take advantage of.

If you want to play only new games, I guess it helps to buy them when they're still new? It's going to just get a lot more expensive for you the longer you wait from release to actually buy the game. If your back catalog is pretty big and the newest game in it is 6 months old, you're going to be hard pressed to find every title in shrinkwrap.

You'll probably get lucky with some titles, but others you're going to pay a premium for, and others still you won't be able to find new at all.

k, tell ya what.

I'll purchase all the games you want (used) online, shrink wrap them, then sell'em back to you at the cost of a new game. Deal?

Another Amazon recommendation here. Nice variety of games, and the times I've bought used games from them they've always been in pretty good to almost new condition (the case and manual that is, the games were essentially scratchless).

Gechmir Dec 19, 2007 10:42 AM

Electronic Boutique and Gamestop sell brand-spanking new games, though

Elixir Dec 19, 2007 11:15 AM

There's a lot of stores on ebay which sell sealed games, and it often avoids Ameri-tax which some people get hit with.

I personally use Play-Asia.com very often. The games always arrive within 5 days, and their shipping isn't expensive at all. Their site is very easy to navigate and they frequently have specials on stuff. Try there. Also, videogamesplus.ca is another good site, but with the Canadian dollar being almost the same as the American dollar, you're actually paying more for no reason. I'd just use ebay if I were you.

Also, dvdboxoffice has free shipping, but they're slow as hell with their orders. That's one site which I can't actually recommend.

Hmm, I see what everyone means when they say 'Amazon'. It has grown a lot since I last bought something from there (Must have been over a year). Thanks for the help, I'll keep Amazon in mind but are does know anymore sites like gamequestdirect.com, and you trust/don't have problems with? If not, than that's ok.

Elegy Dec 19, 2007 01:38 PM

I've bought games from gameexpress.com and I never had a problem with it. They are usually cheaper than other online stores and ship pretty fast. I also use amazon as an alternative and I've never had a problem with that site, either. I also totally agree with Django about Amazon's used section. You think it'd be horrible, but it really isn't and you save a lot. I get all sorts of junk from the used sections. >.>;

I also agree with Dark Nation about deepdiscount. I haven't bought a ton of stuff from the site, but I've never had a problem with them and their prices aren't astronomical. I thought they didn't have that great of a selection when it came to stuff that wasn't DVDs, but perhaps that has changed over time.

Amazon is unbeatable for anything if you're a Prime member. $16 for a year of free 2nd-day shipping. What is this.

If you want to save a few bucks, you could also try Lion Games. They tend to have discounts for people who preorder new titles.

liuu Dec 19, 2007 08:23 PM

Add me for amazon. I've ordered A LOT from them over the past 4-5 years (books, cd's, dvd's, blu ray's, games, etc) and I have never been disappointed.

Sucks I can't get amazon prime, but even without it, amazon is still my #1 spot to do my online purchases.

DarkLink2135 Dec 19, 2007 08:30 PM

I've gotten a lot of stuff that was supposedly brand-new from Amazon, then when I got it, I found out it wasn't factory shrink-wrapped, some moron had done a piss-poor job of re-shrink-wrapping it. The item still worked just fine, but kinda pissed me off they were advertising it as brand new when it was clearly used (disc had scratched on the bottom to boot, as well as other obvious signs of wear on the case). Nothing bad, but not brand new.

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Dec 19, 2007 08:35 PM

Was that from one of the used section resellers? The new stuff from Amazon itself is indeed factory sealed.

My apologies, re-reading my post I realized I didn't clarify that at all.

From the re-seller area, but the items were supposedly brand-new by the product description. Turns out they were not, but I wanted to make the point to the OP that if you are getting it from a re-seller area like that, to be careful. I didn't ever file any complaints because everything worked flawlessly and everything was in like-new condition anyway.

I'd recommend Amazon as well. Free shipping on orders over $25 I think it is, and it's virtually impossible to not go over that limit. I normally try to get anything I buy in a store, but if it turns out I'm doing something online, I try to do Amazon if possible.

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Dec 21, 2007 01:50 PM

Oh, yeah. I'll agree with that. The used section of Amazon is shady as all fuck. "Very good condition" the book listing will say.

And then it arrives and it doesn't have a cover.

Thanks assholes, that's EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR.

mutosho Jan 13, 2008 07:43 AM

Even if this thread is about a month old, I'd still throw in a site i purchase games from. Never had an issue with them and always fast delivery, and they are still cheap (for europeans at least).

Really? I guess I was lucky because I got a used game from Amazon. It was DDR Extreme 2 and it was in very good condition. There weren't any scratches, it was wrapped in plastic (I'm not sure if all games are wrapped in plastic when sold through Amazon, but I thought it was great), and the book was intact. It didn't even seem like it was used. Then again it was only one game I bought from Amazon. The rest of the things I get are new instead of the used stuff. I wonder if overstock.com is a good place to get games. I know a few people who use it
