Dexter: America's Favorite Serial Killer

I'm sure some of you watch this show. It's the only show that I follow right now and by god, I love it. I watch it every Monday night at my buddy's house. So awesome.

This second season is absolutely amazing. The first half of the first season was good too, but then... well, I don't know, the whole "starting to get feelings" thing kinda bothered me. The second season seems to be sort of the same situation, but with a new approach. A better approach, if you will.

This season might be better because it's not directly adapted from a novel in the Dexter series. Regardless, I've been pleasantly surprised so far. The past few episodes have been simply incredible.

And thank God the writers had already finished the season before the strike. =D

I'm a big time fan of the show. I can't believe how good the second season has been, last weeks episode was just jaw dropping

Spoiler:
How Dexter must feel that his father killed himself over him, the monster he created

I am dying to see tomorrow's episode. That bitch character Lyla needs to die lol.

I am very pleased myself with this series... My only concern is that excessive nudity shown by Lyla as opposed to the previous season where it was rather modest.

I missed the first couple episodes of season 2, but what I have seen has been even better than season 1. Maybe it helps that I also missed most of the first season's beginning. Lundy makes for a much more interesting adversary than the Icetruck Killer did.

Well, it is Showtime.

Lyla is a passionate character, so im not surprised by her actions.

Just in case you guys weren't aware, the last two episodes of the season were leaked a few days ago. Satisfying.

Elegy Dec 10, 2007 06:09 AM

I watched the first season when it was airing and I LOVED it. I haven't enjoyed a series this much for a very long time. I'm pretty bad at following stuff on tv so I haven't watched any of the second season yet.

Divest Dec 10, 2007 03:19 PM

Yeah, I'm really liking this triangle between Lundy, Dokes, and Dexter. Far better than the Ice Truck Killer bullshit at the end of the last season. Pissed me off. It was like they were trying to add a twist to a show that didn't need to have a twist so early into it's career.

Can't wait until tonight though. I know the last new episode came out yesterday but unfortunately I don't get Cinemax at my house so I have to go watch it at a buddy's. Ya-yuh.

Kamui Dec 10, 2007 03:23 PM

Finally saw the ending. Fucking thrilling. The last scene was truly great :)

Divest Dec 12, 2007 10:48 AM

I've got episode 12 sitting on my laptop right now.

11 was pretty decent, although I'm not liking Dexter's conscience getting in the way of things. Then again, I'm sure it's tough being a monster, especially when

Spoiler:
the person who made you killed themselves because of what they made

Also, Lyla is getting on my goddamned nerves. Peace, Bautista. :(

Will Dec 12, 2007 03:00 PM

Yeah, I'm pretty sure 11 and 12 are meant to be watched together. The penultimate episode had me thinking the writers were going to seriously cop out, but the finale was honestly quite satisfying.

Divest Dec 12, 2007 06:08 PM

That's what I was worried about. I was like fuck, don't give me none of this morality bullshit.

And is it just me or is Dexter's sister the most annoying and obnoxious character in the history of ever? Goddamn, someone needs to shut that bitch up.

Karasu Dec 12, 2007 07:42 PM

I like Debra, she's direct and in your face. Strong, yet needs wisdom from her brother. I like it.

Spoiler:
That dinner scene with Dexter explaining to Debra he's the Bay Harbor Butcher was hilarious, lmao

Will Dec 12, 2007 09:28 PM

Yeah, the comic relief seemed out of place and for that reason I really enjoyed it. XD

Django! Dec 18, 2007 01:23 PM

Great finale. Was really happy with how different Season 2 was over Season 1.

Will Dec 18, 2007 01:40 PM

Was anyone else convinced that Laguerta was played by Kim Fields? I'm silly.

Django! Dec 19, 2007 06:18 PM

More thoughts.

Spoiler:

The finale itself was exactly what I was hoping for. And it really wasn't a finale as much as an episode to tie up lose ends and give the characters either a clean slate or a starting point for another story.

I was really surprised at how different this season was compared to last year. Season 1 was pretty much a situation where Dex is in a bit of a role reversal. The writers already play up the anti-hero approach with the character, but the framing of last season's story arch played well on our emotions regarding the character Dexter, and by the end of it everyone is ready to forgive his murderous spree once he confronts, and finds the truth behind, the Ice Truck Killer.

But with Season 2, the show plays on that emotion. Others think the Butcher is a good guy as well, but the entire season plays on the angle that Dex, regardless of the "good" things he does, he's still a killer, and by the end of it, an innocent man dies. In the first season, the Ice Truck Killer was the villain. Now it's Dexter himself. The entire story was devoted to firmly developing each character. Deb and LaGuerta's confrontation at the end, Rita and Dex, and Dex as an individual, and especially James Doakes, who, for the entire run, has been the antagonist, but by the finale, he's human. He's a good guy. He's a good cop. His sacrifice destroyed who he is.

At least Dex appreciates that.

Oh yeah, and the soundtrack is phenomenal.
