Copying DVD to hard drive
Basically I am trying to copy a DVD to my hard drive, I tried it the old fashioned way by click and dragging the contents to the hard drive, however this time I am getting a error. It is not a DVD from a store or anything, It is a DVD that was made by a DVD buring program on the computer, so it would not have any copy protection coded.
So does anyone have any ideas of software that I can use to copy the DVD contents to the hard drive so that I can burn it to a nother DVD? (I only have one DVD ROM so I can just do a simple DVD copy.) |
What kind of DVD is this? If it just contains data, you should be able to drag & drop the contents on your hard drive. If this is giving you errors, the disc is damaged or your drive is unable to read it.
If it's a DVD video, use DVDDecrypter. |
Actually if it's ANY type of DVD, as long as it's only single layer, use DVD Decrypter. If it's Dual Layer, you're gonna have to find some of the expensive DL DVDs if you want copies. Or if it's a DVD movie, use something like DVD Shrink to make it fit on a single layer DVD.

It is a video DVD, I just tried the DVDDecrypter program, and it can see all the data, but when it gets about half way to the hard drive, I get a I/O error.

The errors you're getting seems to be indicative of Cyclic Redundancy Check errors. At worst, the disc is damaged, and the data may not be fully recoverable.
Try extracting the data with a more forgiving (and persistent) program, like Isobuster. Alternatively, try to read this off another DVD-ROM drive. |
Yup I/O reading errors are due to scratched discs or small specs of dust on the surface. Make sure the surface is as smooth as possible. Even the slightest dust particle can produce such errors on very sensitive drives.
Using another DVD-Rom drive can be the solution too as Zergrinch already brought up. I once used three different DVD-drives on multiple systems to rip a badly damaged DVD and got together a splendid working copy. |
