Is there any good JRPG for PC?
I've been searching for some RPGs for my new PC, but all I find are the PC-RPG type (for some unknown reason -_-), which are more action oriented than Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest, my favourite series.
Is there something else ported or made for PC (beside FFVII-VIII ports) or can you recommend a really good PC-RPG? I really don't want to go MMO, so I've been thinking Oblivion. Will a FF lover like Oblivion? Oh and please let music be a VERY important factor in any recommendation. |
I've heard lots of good things about Anachronox although I've never played it. I've played Septerra Core but I didn't like it too much. Another game I've heard of is Silver, which I thought looked very similar to FFVII. I've never played that either though.
That's all I know of at present. |
If language isn't a barrier, you might want to try Legend of Heroes VI (Sora No Kiseki VI), which is a turn-based rpg for PC, made by Falcom. It's a great game with a unique battle system and decent music. I believe you can get the game from himeya's website, or other online retailers like playasia.com
On the action-rpg side, also try Ys VI : Ark of Napishtim, and Ys: Oath of Felghanna, also made by Falcom. Music in 'Oath' is unparalleled by any game IMO. |
It's tough to find good JRPGs for PC released outside of Japan.
There are Ys games and Gurumin if Japanese action RPGs are sufficient. Just don't touch that Legend of Heroes crap. Ugh. Unless you're like...outrageously desperate and will play anything.... |
You're probably judging the series from the PSP ports by Bandai. The Legend of Heroes games are great because of the storytelling. And of course when the only localized versions have bastardized translations the greatest aspect of the game is completely lost. Though from what I've heard VI not only has the same quality story you'd expect from a LoH game, but the whole game itself is quality work. I still wouldn't play unless I could understand the story.
I can't really think of many jrpgs on the PC. The games created by Falcom never get released here. I do know Capcom did a Breath of fire IV port to the PC. That's worth checking out I guess. |
I think there was a Grandia 3 for PC.
|
No there wasn't.
There was a Grandia 2 port though, and it was TERRIBLE. Holy god damn SHIT. It makes the PS2 version look like the second coming of Christ. |
Wow, thanks for your suggestions, I'll try Ys: Oath.. for the music, and if I find the breath of fire iv port, that would make my day.

Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete also came out for PC, but only in Japan and Korea. There's that language barrier again! Of course, the PlayStation version is just as good, so I wouldn't bother. |

Still a fun game. Be sure to get the unofficial patch, though. It adds a fast-forward button, a taxi service, and improved stability (much needed!). |
How come no one suggested

Wrong number, I got. Hmm... I think it wasnt that bad, but at the same time, I saw like .00015 secs of it. And I hardly remember the Dreamcast version. |

Actually, I played the PC port and got about 20 hours in. The in-game videos were really ugly but as far as I can remember, it wasn't a terrible port. It was a terrible game though.

was pretty good. It came out in Japan back in 2005, and the US version has been on hold for pretty much that long, but RPGFan says it's the best of the series by far. |
