Live CD Recording

I was thinking about something and wondering if something like this existed.

Is there a stand alone CD Recorder that records from line-in? I mean it functions like a tape-deck, only it records to CDs instead of 4-track tapes. And no computers...we're keeping this simplistic.

Does something like this exist? Or would you just have to use a DVD Recorder that would be willing to record w/o the video input?

I've never seen a CD player/writer which can record with a line-in input, although I personally myself use my Sony Mini Disc player, which does, but I guess thats not of any help to you?

No, mini disc won't work as the purpose I was thinking of was for recording a performance, and with it being on CDs being able to make quick copies. Like for instance, a church service.

That's just the first thing I found on Froogle. Looks like there are quite a few stand-alones -- this looks like a fairly fancy one.

I use a CD recorder to do live recordings of my priest's sermons every sunday. It records the signal directly from the mixing console's REC OUT port. (RCA composite cables.) It is MUCH better than recording to the minidisc player, because there is significantly less hiss, and I can simply rip the CD to a WAV file for post-production, instead of having to record from the minidisc player.

I don't know the model number, but I know that the company is Marantz. I could take a picture of it for you when I'm there tomorrow, as I have to run the mixing console for a conference my church is having.

Edit: AH! Here it is:

This is the one we use, and it works very well.

Tell me, VG, do you work for a church? If so, I'd like to talk to you.

No. I was just using a church service as a idea reference. I know a lot of them are doing recordings of services but still on 4-track. Given the cost of blank CDs going way way down I was wondering if there was a way to do it that would be simple.

Just think of it as a geek trying to stay on top of technology.

Oh well.

At any rate, the CD recorder I listed should work fine just the same.

A setup I saw once was something similar to what you use PiccoloNamek, and also an additional CD- replicator box. It's basically a load of CD Recorders jammed into one CPUless box. I guess one of the drives is the "master", and you put what you want to copy in there, and blank CDs in the other drives. In a few minutes you have 6 copies or so. It was at a friend's band's gig. By the time the thing was over, you could get CDs recorded of the gig. Pretty awesome.

I wish I could do with with our sermons, but with all of the coughing and stuttering, it really isn't fesible. I swear, people must cough more during the 25 or so minutes of the sermon than they do during the entirety of the year. It's like yawning; one person coughs, then another, then another, and soon everybody feels compelled to do it, and when they cough at the same time the priest is speaking, I can't edit it out.
