Which Systems to buy

Alright guys, I plan to buy 2 next gen systems within the next year (latest august 08)

I am definitly getting the Wii. Mario Galaxy and Smash Brothers sold me alone

The Question now arises between the Xbox 360 and the PS3.

Xbox has Halo 3, Fable 2, mass effect, lost odyssey, GoW 2

PS3 Has Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy, Devil May Cry.

It also seems like most games on the Xbox are also on the PC, So I could always just play them PC style. I want the system that will offer the best games and more versatility. I don't know which one get get though. I like the Idea of the Xbox more, but I'm not sure. What do some of you avid gamers recommend for me to do?

Also, which system looks better? Like fo real, does the Ps3 actually look better? and I know it has blu-ray...damn

If most games on the 360 are also for PC, then most games for the PS3 are also for 360. Devil May Cry 4 isn't PS3-exclusive, you realize.

In any case, there's no way to properly justify the purchase of one and not the other. If you like most any genre, then you're going to get the shaft at various points in time when the console you didn't chose comes out with an awesome exclusive. That's just the way it goes.

I was thinking of Getting the xbox and waiting to see the route the ps3 takes, and eventually possibly get it.

I have both a 360 and a PS3. I play my 360 all the time. I only use my PS3 to watch blu-ray movies. If you were going to make the purchase tomorrow, 360 is the obvious choice. A year from now? Uh maybe there will be enough good PS3 games available by then to make it a better choice for gaming.

It depends what you want to use it for. Others mentioned blu-ray, and I'd like to add that I think the PSN marketplace has better choices as far as original games or minigames.

My PS3 so far has been used for movies, my backlog of PS2 and PS games, and as a media center. (PS3 will soon support divx, so you can watch movies or TV programs you've downloaded on your PC in turn on your PS3, if you're into that kind of thing.)

As for more games being on 360, I'd never buy more than a handful anyways, so it really doesn't apply to me. I'd only end up getting (maybe) Gears of War, Mass Effect, and Rainbow Six Vegas.

If you like online gaming, a pure variety of games, or chatting it up with friends, then your choice is clear.

If you like a wide variety of high-def movies, backwards compatibility, or if you plan on using your system more for personal use, I'd say your choice is clear as well.

I'm finally going to cave in and purchase a 360 (my store has a used 360 Elite), but I'm only purchasing it so I can play Mass Effect, and maybe Crackdown. Don't give a shit about Halo.

I've got a PS3 and a Wii already. I've used my Wii....about three times. That's not necessarily a knock against the system, but a.) I don't have 4 people over at my house at any given time, b.) I don't really want any of the games for it, and c.) I only bought it for the NiGHTS sequel. Speaking of which, can't wait for the PS2 port of the original game.

I use my PS3 constantly though. Streaming music files from my comp to blast it through my 5.1s, watching blu-ray movies (which is something I thought I'd never really buy into, but hey when you've got the player...), and playing several PS3 titles as well as my existing PS2/1 library. Games like Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, Ratchet and Clank, Warhawk, Folklore, and the majors that'll swing through next year, like Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy, and a personal favorite of mine, White Knight Story. And there will inevitably be a Jak and Daxter title, another Ratchet title...etc.

But that's just me. My advice to you is not to look at what's already out, but look to see what's coming out. By August '08, there will be a clear list of exclusives for you to look at, and then take what's coming out and compare it to what's already available, and buy what'll give you the most for your money.

I'm getting the 360 for Christmas...Rock Band (with DLC and online) and Puzzle Fighter online are the main things I'm interested in so both 360 and PS3 qualify, but the 360 actually has other games I'm interested in, has backwards compatibility so I can replace my Xbox 1 (and get around to getting it modded), I like the achievement system/Live Arcade and I don't like how the PS3 has been handled thus far at all by Sony (and I couldn't care less about Blu Ray). Really, I don't see what PS3 can offer me at this point that would get me to change my mind, so the time is right for the 360.

I do plan on getting Wii (since its' different from the other two), but it'll be later. Probably after Smash Brothers Brawl comes out.

I heard the new PS3 won't have backwards compatibility.... Is it really true? Or my friend just doesn't want me to get one next year (LittleBigPlanet!) -_-;;;

This is true of the new 40 GB model, it has 2 less usb ports as well and maybe the card reader is missing too (not sure on that last one).

In my completely biased opinion you should get a 360. No... seriously. Do you really need Metal Gear or Final Fantasy that bad? I personally don't see any other reason to get a PS3.

40 gig model will not have it at all.
80 gig model will have software updates that enable more games (Kinda like Microsoft's model right now)
60 gig model (the one that's being phased out) has the PS2 hardware already built into it, so you'll be able to play 99% of PS2 and PS games with no problems whatsoever.

No. Hard Pass. Nov 25, 2007 08:42 PM

I've yet to run into a game for the PSX or the PS2 that doesn't run just fine on my 80 gig PS3. Like, no flickering, no hanging, nothing.

I've heard a few different figures on how much of the PS2 and PS library works perfectly with the 80 gig, but most of them are high-- around 70-80%. For me it's just a little more peace of mind knowing I don't have to worry about whether it will work or not.

Apparently they updated the BC site to include 60 gig versus 80 gig, too, so you can check up on your personal library. PlayStation.com

If you really enjoy video games, you're going to have to get each system. It was the same the previous console generation and this generation won't be much of an exception. Tough answer, unless you're specific about just what you're willing to give up on. Yes, it's time to make a decision, lovely. The PS3 seems like a good choice if you want a Blue Ray media player and stronger Japanese support. The 360 is a good choice for superior online infrastructure and a good mix of the conventional and PS3 thunder stealing ports.
