Finding a Wii..
anyone else having trouble finding a Wii? I guess it doesnt help its almost christmas time. Few places ive looked at are sold out, unless you buy the 500dollar bundle.. ugh
|
Call your EB/Gamestop/Best Buy/Walmart/etc. and ask them if they got in any Wiis today. Keep doing this everyday until you figure out what day and time they get their shipment in. You can also just outright ask them when they usually get their Wiis in and they might tell you. Then either call them the day or time they're supposed to get them in and when they confirm it is there then book it on over and get your Wii as fast as possible OR just camp out on that date they're supposed to get it in.
Or if you prefer the lazy way then go to ebay and pay 100 or so extra dollars for a Buy It Now deal that more than likely will come with Wii Play and an extra nunchuk. It evens out the price. Next time make this thread in the correct forum. |
You'll probably have much better results from actually going in and asking employees instead of just calling. Several stores have been instructed to hide them in the back so they'll have some in stock for the weekly ads, but you might get lucky and ask an employee who doesn't know that in-store.
Check under display tables in the video game section of Best Buy too. I was in there one time and an employee slid a box of 2-3 Wiis under the tablecloth to hide them from view. |
My EB gets them typically on Mondays or Tuesdays each week, then they give me free stuff and I tell them how awesome they are, then they give me MORE free stuff. <3
Target has been the one place that has had them the longest before running out, but most retail places get them on the weekends (Best Buy typically has a bunch Sunday morning). |
Acer is very correct. I called my EB four days in a row during their shipment time and I managed to score one. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be, but now that it is getting close to the holidays it may be a bit more difficult.
|
I've heard clerks at Kmart telling customers they'll have Wiis on Thanksgiving (it's in their ad). Probably the closest to a sure thing you'll get. Just keep looking; I've seen them in several stores recently.
|
I would say WiiTracker.com for the sake of tracking one online, but you're gonna have to visit that site religiously to see if they have anything available. Occasionally you'll find the Wii Console only deal there, but that's always an option.
But I'd take the advice of everyone else and just check up on your local electronic stores around your area to see when they'll have one in stock. |
I'll sell you mine for $300.
Free classic controller and component cable. Why resist. |

Also, check stores like Wal-Mart and Target, as they generally get larger stock than Gamestops do, and sometimes have one or two hiding on the shelves if you look at the right time. |
Toys R Us.
Any Sunday Morning, opening time. You will get a Wii. |
Last year, I scored one on Black Friday. Gamestop was guaranteed to have some that day, they ended up getting about 8 and I was 7th in line, so I got one. Other than that, I have not checked to see if Gamestop has gotten any in stock, but no other store besides Costco has ever had any in-stock at any time, that I remember. If you have a Costco around you find someone with a membership to check them out to see if they have any in stock. They will probably get intermittent Wii shipments this holiday season. (Their first and only pallet of Wiis actually lasted 2.5 weeks, compared to the pallet of PS3's which has lasted for about 6 months...)

check the adds in the saturday and sunday paper. Stores usually say if they will have wiis in. Then all you gotta do is get there early enough
|
I never had trouble finding wii... I see Wii in my futureshop everytime I go... its never out of stock!
|
I bought a Wii last Thursday at Best Buy.
I was originally told to try Sunday and Thursday mornings from an employee. But yeah, after Thanksgiving you're going to have to call every single day. Going in is probably your best bet. |
I guess so, I called literally everyplace in this city that sold systems today.. all said they didnt have any. Would they really say they didnt have any, but they do, holding them for black friday? That is kinda dishonest..
|
Dishonest, but it happens all the time. Either because they're required to have at least a few in stock for the weekly ad (especially a big sales day like Black Friday) or they'd rather keep them for the customers who are in the store so they minimize the number of times they have to deal with a pissed off customer in person.
|
I got lucky and got mine at Wal-Mart at around 2 am one morning. The clerk was kind of pissed and was all "Fuck, I'll never get a Wii, they keep selling out." Then started to give some kind of guilt trip as if I'm going to plop down money so someone else can have a Wii. roffle.
Went to Wal-Mart the other day and someone was getting kind of uppity because there were none in stock. Thought he was going to shoot the person opening the case @_o. They've always been hard to find, just going to be a lot worse after this weekend. Keep trying EB everyday as said before, but also try Wal-Marts wee hours in the morning. Might get lucky and find one in stock there. Of course make sure someone's with you or ask if you can get an escort, just incase there's hijinx goings on around you. |
Yeah your best bet really is to go wherever they're advertised for this Friday. Of course, that means that you're probably going to have to get up really fucking early to get a place in line to have your Wii guaranteed. But it's easy to do that ONE day out of the year than having to continually call places and search for a month or two before you get lucky, I think.
TRU is advertising them for this Friday, as well as K-Mart. I'd try those places, since they have to have some in stock if it's advertised. |
Good thing there's both a Toys R Us and K-Mart near me, also Gamestop and EB Games.
I'm planning to start my search tomorrow, so wish me luck >_> |
Wal-Mart after midnight is also good, since they tend to do shelf stocking at night when the stores are slower in traffic.
|
That and you can always ask the person at electronics to check and see if they have any in. Usually I head over to electronics first anyway to see what's in. One time I saw like 5 Wiis. Weren't there the next day though, heh.
|
Just picked up Mario Galaxy at Gamestop and asked just for kicks if they get any Wiis in much and they said they should have some this Friday.
Seriously, if you want one stand in line all night Black Friday at someplace like EB or GS. If I hadn't done that last year to date, I would not have a Wii now... |
Also, remember the lazy man's route is Ebay for like 300 to 400 bucks with extras if you can't be bothered to use phones or stand in the cold. After doing both of those I ended up doing that on launch day. Got my Wii in two days. It's pretty much the most painless way of getting a Wii besides randomly happening upon one which rarely ever happens.

Holday season.. Good luck with that, as if they weren't hard enough to find already! x(
