uTorrent Limit?

Heya,

I was wondering -but why does uTorrent limit the TOTAL download speed at 1MB/s? Why can't I download more a time (speed-wise)? I know my ISP allows me to download 10MB/s a time

Thanks

No, your ISP allows you to download at 10 MegaBITS per second, which is 1.25MB/s, which is a theoretical limit you'll almost never hit anyhow.

... 10 MegaBITS omg... when I talked to them on the phone they would 10 Megabites (that's how they pronounce it... bites) <....< OMG that's freaking slow! That's standard cable Internet too... is that how cable usually goes at?

That's not slow.

Compared with what they're getting over in Japan, it's very slow :(

That's great. This idiot here though doesn't live in Japan, they live in Canada.

For a Canadian cable internet company, that's about par for the course, so no, it's not slow.

Japan also has about a million times the population density of Canada or America and can thus afford to put in high-grade infrastructure.

10Mbps is better than most American/Canadian broadband and is certainly not slow. A T1 connection is only 1.5Mbps Down.

Yep. Getting ~7MBit here (Comcast)...it's actually the modem itself that's pushing past my bandwidth cap, which is supposed to be 6MBit. GJ Comcast!

(Their torrent throttling still sucks, though. =/ )

Way to be spoiled.

Keep in mind my cable connection has a theoretical download speed of ~2.5 Megabytes per second (or 20 Megabits per second), and the highest I've ever got in uTorrent is 930KBps (it's usually much lowerl).

Connection quality, traffic and other conditions affect the ability for you to meet the advertised speed of your ISP. If you live in a busy neighborhood, you'll be sharing the bandwidth with your everyone who lives nearby (this is with cable, DSL works different from what I've heard).

And really, at 1MBps, you can nearly download a whole DVD in an one and a half hours, that's pretty fast if you ask me.

BIGWORM Nov 19, 2007 05:58 PM

^ Correct. When I raping using Newsgroups on 8MBIT, I had a full DVD (4.7GB) in an 1 hour, 25 mins.

Yeah, I actually timed it.
