First of Four Futurama Movies Coming Out This Month!!

November 27th, the new Futurama movie. I'm so freakin' happy I could squeel like a fat kid with a Big Mac. So they're supposed to release all four movies by 2009, but has anyone heard anything about the shows

I'm pretty sure the new season(s?) will consist of the films edited into a load of half-hour episodes.

I am motherfucking ecstatic about this. I will organise a viewing party. There will be snacks.

orion_mk3 Nov 12, 2007 04:03 PM

Has anyone else seen the trailer yet? It's terrific, really great stuff, but YouTube keeps taking them down for "copyright violations." Nice move, Fox, shoot down free advertising. Watch it here instead.

I'm incredibly excited; from what I can see, the animation and humor is just like it always was. After years of rumors and false starts, I'm counting down the days 'til the release.

The DVD's are still being produced by Fox, even though they'll be airing as episodes on Comedy Central.

Wait wait.... there are for sure going to be new seasons?!?! Can I see some proof bro!?!?

Some of the jokes in the trailer were kinda lame, but Futurama's resume is such that they get the benefit of the doubt. I'm sure they're keeping the best for the actual films.

Sure.

Then they ran the clip, a five-minute collection of random footage from the first DVD movie, out November 27th. Three more are planned, which will be released throughout 2008. Bender's Big Score! Big Score revolves around Bender being swindled by nude Internet scammers and Planet Express the victim of a hostile takeover. The plots of the three other movies have yet to be revealed, but all four will be re-edited as 16 TV episodes that will air on Comedy Central in 2008.

That's great news. I really loved Futurama. Too bad it was canceled. :( I'm looking forward to watch it. :D

So, this leaked, and it really isn't up to the show's old standards. It has its moments, but it's pretty much a letdown.

Really? This review seemed pretty positive. But who am I kidding? I'll buy the DVD no matter what the reviews say.

Not just a film, people, an EPIC!

UGO seemed to like it, too, they gave it an "A", anyway. IGN recommends it, also. I haven't seen it yet, but the buzz around it seems to be decent at least.

You know who else loves the movie? The environment. The DVD is going to be the world first "carbon neutral" produced disc, no doubt instigated Al Gore, who's guest-starring as his own head again.

Special features on the disc:

Quote:

Commentary By Matt Groening, David X. Cohen, Billy West, John DiMaggio, Phil LaMarr, Claudia Katz, Dwayne Carey-Hill and Ken Keeler

Futurama Returns! A Live Comic Book Reading By The Futurama Cast Featurette

Everybody Loves Hypnotoad - A Spellbinding Episode Of The Future's Most Popular TV Program

A Terrifying Message From Al Gore - Animated Promo For An Inconvenient Truth

Video Commentary by Al Gore, Matt Groening and David X. Cohen

Bite My Shiny Metal X - A Futurama Math Lecture Featurette

Bender's Big Score: The Original First Draft Of The Script

New Character/Design Sketches

Original Five-Minute Comic-Con Promo

Deleted Scenes: Monte Carlo, Robot Mafia, Limbo Contest
Nice. Very nice.

Haha...I kinda thought you were joking until I read the article. Carbon-neutral, huh? Interesting.

It's going to be great to finally watch some new Futurama after watching rerun after rerun late at night. Hopefully the movie will live up to expectations too.

I gotta say, after I saw the movie (and loved it) I really want a soundtrack out. The music in the romantic and heartfelt scenes the movie were lovely, whether is a song or music.

I would love have the music from these scenes, MAJOR SPOILERS:

Spoiler:
Leela's date with Lars.

Fry time paradox duplicate at the end when he realises who he will become and rushes back to the future.

The musical numbers were kinda weak though, but all in all, I enjoyed it alot. It was entertaining, had the same Futurama style humor we loved, but also had a sentimental story that reminds us why this is much better than the current Simpsons.

Though I do have one heavy critisim that mirrors what IGN said. To quote them:

Spoiler:
But, one disappointing aspect of this continuation is that Bender's Big Score seems to casually forget all about the events of the (not so) final episode, "The Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings." Sure, the Leela/Fry love story is still the main aspect of this movie, but they seem to have forgotten that Fry had one over Leela in the end. This small nitpick aside, the movie's story is a love note to the fans of the series, which does its best to give the Futurama community everything that they could possibly want to see from series.

As mentioned before, one of the areas that hardcore Futurama fans may have a problem with, is the fact that Fry is still desperately vying for the affection of Leela. If the love story between the two was strong enough, this wouldn't have been such a problem, but the hour and a half clock time on this movie makes the teasing between Leela and Fry unbearable. Still, it is understandable why the writers wouldn't want to give up their golden goose, as, what television show has been better due to their long separated protagonists finally getting together?

Hantei Nov 23, 2007 03:59 AM

Just finished watching it. It was pretty good, heh, and I agree with Kairi Li about the soundtrack, some of musical numbers were really good. Especially that one she mentioned, also loving the new mix of the theme too.

Spoiler:
Heh, it was interesting to see that it was Bender who fossilized Seymour (Fry's dog). And Lars actually being Fry, had a feeling that was the case as his head/face looked oddly similar to Fry's. Also interesting that Yancy still named his son Philip, since there was no real motivation for it as Fry was still alive at the time.
One complaint is that there wasn't enough screen time for Zapp, haha.

Kairi Li Nov 23, 2007 05:08 AM

Regarding Lars

Spoiler:
I didnt really see as Fry until the wedding, when he reacted to the whole "paradox duplicates are always doomed". And when he sacrificed himself and Bender was about to explode, the face he made when Bender laughs right before he blows up was uncanny to Fry's. Also I noticed it was probably Billy West voicing him, certain inflections tipped me off. He was still convincing in the disguise though.

Also, after knowing who Lars is, the date scene seemed alot more powerful, since we know this is potentially how happy Fry and Leela can be. But maybe I'm just being some old idealistic romantic girly girl... But that scene felt even better once you know his identity.

The movie's in 5.1, so if it's anything like the Simpsons DVD releases, it'll be possible to rip a decent music track straight from the disc. I'm definitely going to try it with my copy, when I get one :)

DeLorean Nov 26, 2007 05:11 PM

omg omg omg omg tomorrow!!!! Pre-ordered.

SenorKaffee Nov 27, 2007 08:42 AM

Wow - that was fun. I´m not sure if it is so much fun if this is your first contact with the world of Futurama, but as a fan since Space Pilot 3000 I really cannot complain.

orion_mk3 Nov 27, 2007 06:52 PM

Well, having seen the DVD, I have to say that I'm very pleased. I laughed, there were tons of cameos, and the cliffhanger ending makes me want more. The middle section did drag a little, but that's the worst thing I can say.

Best of all, my copy came with a preview of the next movie, which looks even better.

orion_mk3 Dec 1, 2007 01:11 AM

I've had a chance to play around a little with the 5.1 sound on the DVD, and it looks like I can get a reasonable music rip from the disc once I have the chance to borrow a good compressor/limiter and normalizer.

Until then, here's a sampling of the best tracks from the movie with some minor SFX.
