Yasunori Mitsuda to write music to free Gaia Online MMORPG

For the people who don't know what Gaia Online is: Gaia Online - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. For those that do, join me in a communal "wait what":

But the world is not composed of only combat-oriented challenges. There are many ways to play in this world, whether doing favors for characters in the world, playing games, meeting at dance halls or in towns, or just simply exploring the landscape. “Battle” is a broad, new game in a widely-varying world that is FREE to play with NO DOWNLOAD required. Come try it yourself. You just might find yourself with a new home.

We are also very close to contracting with another brilliant composer with some incredible new ideas for music within an MMO. Details on that are forthcoming, but stay tuned!

If there was any doubt that GO makes money hand over fist, then here's the conclusive evidence. That second page actually has a music sample from Mitsuda. If you don't feel like sullying your browser by actually visiting the site, I grabbed it and uploaded it to my webspace:

So, discuss, umm... the end of the world as we know it.

Dang, if it's that easy to hire Mitsuda, why hasn't he been writing more music? Let's pool our money and get him to co-compose GFF: The Album with Hiroki Kikuta and any other composers who could use the work.

Seriously, though, I'm just glad to see him composing something, anything. I'd settle for porno music (which, considering the various areas of Gaia some of my friends frequent, might not be that much of a difference).

Anime Faggots Online.

So what the hell happened to the Chrono Cross Arrange.

We should have asked for Lolocaust. :(

good news or bad news? I've been waiting forever for Chrono Cross arranged album, but it's nice to see Mitsuda still composing new music :)

Any chance you could post a sendspace link for that, AWACS?

I've managed to avoid Gaia Online completely, but I have to wonder how they got the money to hire Mitsuda to compose for their free MMO. Guess it's too bad the GFF RPG never got off the ground (and Miles doesn't have a couple thousand dollars laying around).

I actually did mean to put up a direct link along with the streaming player. Thanks for the reminder: gaiahome.mp3

Wow, that's... surprising. That sample is rather saccharine, though. So... I guess it fits perfectly.

It sounds like a song in flyff when it was in free testing.....its ok I guess. He must have had quite a busy year last year. Odd though they haven't updates Mitsuda's website about it.

Mitsuda composing Korean-MMO-style music actually sounds good. I only listened to Armodyne once, but that seemed like a big letdown. I'm glad Mitsuda still has the touch with his new compositions.

His name is no longer on the website.

Welcome to Gaia Online

Personally? From the track itself and everything I've seen, I say its fake.

Arcubalis Nov 25, 2007 01:18 AM

It never stated that the track on the website was from Mitsuda. It simply said, "listen to some music from the game." So, who knows.

Listening to that track, it sounds absolutely nothing like Mitsuda... I know he likes to mix it up sometimes, but that's just far too removed from anything he'd do for me to believe he wrote it.

Sounds sugary and perfect for an MMO if some of RO's music is any indication of Asian MMO music standards.

Doesn't remind me of Mitsuda at all though.

So, I just found this track in the shady back alleys of my computer. Was it ever established who composed it? Or is it all still very much ?
