Baroque
ƒoƒƒbƒN
Think maybe atlus will localize this? Ive never played the saturn version.. but it looks cool. Kinda the same P3 is, with a central tower/dungeon.. that has many floors an changes layout each time you enter. Its suppose to be an action rpg? |
Info for this game is actually kinda scarce, but it looks to be a first-person RPG similar to Phantasy Star I or Shining the Holy Ark. I can't tell if the battles are real-time or turn-based from any screens I've looked at, though. The original came out for Saturn and PSone in Japan only back in 1998, and the PS2 version came out last June, but Sting or Atlus haven't said anything about bringing this outside Japan. I'd imagine the small following Sting has amassed with Yggdra Union and Riviera *might* give it a chance to come out stateside, though.

I have the soundtrack for some bizzare reason, I'll post it later if you'd like. I'd probably check it out if there was a PS2 port, like how they just did for NiGHTS, another Saturn Game.
|
Actually it looks like Atlus is porting it. (Good call)
Official Baroque Website Guess Soul Nomad wasn't the last Rpg ish game to be released This might be the last thing I pick up for PS2 (unless another rpg shows up too) |
Huh? What? A muti-platform RPG? And for the Wii?
That's some weird shit. |
Looks interesting and I'm in love with the artwork... heh, the ps2 is working hard to prove it is immortal.
|
wow.. its coming.
Thank you atlus! so it comes out in january? |
I believe they said it was planned to come out on February
|

Looks interesting! I wonder what the Wii version has to provide with compared to the PS2 version. I'll be playing the PS2 version anyhow.

I'm completely skeptical, mostly because randomly-generated dungeons are frustrating when they're implemented in a goddamn dungeon-crawler. Yes, it adds to the replay value, but dungeons seem randomly thrown together (surprise!) and are oftentimes nonsensical. We'll see how it goes, and if the Wii port is any good. |
I'd be more interested if they ported and/or remade Black/Matrix. I've never really heard anything of Baroque other than it being subpar or lackluster.
|
It was Japanese and playable despite that, but I didn't find myself getting hooked, in all honesty. It felt very creepy though =(
|
Yeah, not gonna waste my time with it, then. Thanks for the replies!

I've always been interested in Baroque, but I don't know much about it. I'm really surprised it's being released in English and on the PS2, yay!

Well, Here's a sendspace upload of the soundtrack |
I'm just gonna repost what I said on other forums. It's nice to see Baroque getting revisited, and translated, but the original is just not a good game. It's interesting, but it's basically bad game in the same way King's Field was. And the King's Field games were better.
I picked this up along with Black/Matrix from Babbages around 10 years ago, when they had a big display of Saturn import titles. Game sucked then. Dunno how it's gonna do well now. Doesn't really seem like the main flaws in the game were addressed. The original Saturn game was a randomly generated dungeon crawler/Rogue-like. It was really slow, and hard to avoid attacks. It was mainly a challenge to see if you could actually get to the next point in the game, since every level you were reverted back to being naked. I would imagine it's being remade because some of the characters are really cool, and it has a decent premise. Though I hear the PS2 remake doesn't look much better than the original, and that the characters control like those in Phantasy Star Online. But really, Sting has started a habit of reworking things. Riviera was remade at least twice, Yggdra once, and there is a shmup, typing of the dead, and Radical Dreamers style game all based on Baroque. Black/Matrix, on the other hand, was great. Too pad Atlus didn't pick it up instead. |
