Removing Java?

I'm trying to clear up some space on my computer by removing excess programs. I've come across these three java related programs.

J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 1 (143.1 mb)
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 4 (118.4 mb)
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6 (145.0 mb)
Java(TM) 6 Update 3 (133.2 mb)

I updated to Java(TM) 6 Update 3, so do I have to keep all the runtime environments installed on my computer, or can I uninstall them? What purpose do the runtime environment files server?

Yes, you can remove them. You only need the most recent one.
