The story is loosely based on the Chinese novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms and depicts provocatively dressed girls (and boys) from different high schools that fight each other. A second draft of the live-action project's story treatment has been completed. Tokyopop's synopsis of the proposed remake described it as an adolescent comedy set on American college campuses, with the possibility of casting an Asian female in the lead role.

The company's TIFFCOM presentation also highlighted previously revealed plans for live-action adaptations of Kei Toume's Lament of the Lamb and Misaho Kujiradou's Princess Ai manga. The creative management firm William Morris Agency is representing Tokyopop in its negotiations to bring these proposals to reality.

What the hell, Tokyopop? I can't begin to understand how this even works. First, unless there are tits flying out everywhere and money shots every two seconds, it won't even be accurate to the source material. But wait, Tokyopop already screwed with the source material by rewriting the entirety of the manga's dialogue sex-obsessed high school delinquent (wait, is that really much of a rewrite...). Then Tokyopop plans to further mess with the content by setting it on American college campuses and making it an adolescent comedy? What do Americans even care about Romance of the Three Kingdoms? Probably zilch. I don't see how this is really going to hold anyone's interest, unless it goes the aforementioned T&A route.

So now we can add this title to the group of ADV's Neon Genesis Evangelion movie and Fox's Dragon Ball Z movie. Are licensing companies getting crazier, or do you think these titles will succeed?

I REALLY hope this shit isn't for real.
Sometimes I wonder about Tokyopop, they can make some real shit decisions.

I dunno, man. I'm watching the anime for the first time right now(a friend let me borrow it), and I gotta say there is no way in hell this will end up working right. First of all, if they made it as perverted, they couldn't put it on TV at all. It'd have to go straight to DVD, would be damn near like soft core porn. It would almost have to be put in the 18+ section and no one would buy it.
If they did put it on TV, it would be so watered down it wouldn't even be funny.

This could turn out as bad or worse than the DOA movie. Oh hell...

It sounds so terrible that I'd have to watch it for the cringe factor alone. Bring it on Tokyopop. Give me your shittiest! =D

Wait the DBZ movie is being done by Fox?

Yeah, there is a thread about it here.

Read at your own risk. I think it looks scary...

I'd probably watch it too, for the same reasons.

BUT

Movies are a big deal. They get marketed and advertised heavily. And since it's Tokyopop and this particular title, you just know there's going to be a line like "BASED ON THE HIT MANGA SERIES BATTLE VIXENS" or something. There are going to be people out there who will see this movie or read reviews about it and think "Oh, so this is what Japanese cartoons is about. BACK TO GARFIELD" It worries me a little bit.

But hey I suppose thinking that manga is all about crappy plots and fighting and dialogue is better than thinking all anime is tentacle rape.

Wow. I'm just glad Tenjou Tenge isn't getting a similar treatment (lol CMX), even though I think it's a superior manga. Both aren't great pieces of work, but I don't think either would be popular enough to try and adapt into a film, especially an American film.

On the bright side, maybe this'll flop so bad that Tokyopop and other publishers/executives won't bother to try another anime adapatation again.
