Magi's Sketch Book

Sort of a Daily Art Thread thingy, I guess.

This is sort of the idea I got from Concept Arts.

I'll start with something seasonly.

I am not quite done with this though. This particular avatar have exchangeable parts such as her hat and body parts. Those are all saved as separate layers can be replaced and updated for other event or a different look.

very nice work! this motivates me to get back into my art, its been sooo long @_@

Magi Oct 27, 2007 01:43 AM

Devo: Hey thanks. I am really interested in "living"___ object type of concept recently.

Mad_jatt69: Cool, can we see you posting something in CC soon? :p

I am actually not very good at drawing people operating something or riding bike or something of that nature, the object that they are interacting with often interferes my drawing of the character from time to times.

Yafray: 27 minutes

the light setting for the two render is exactly the same, there is exactly one light, there is a subtle but important difference in depth of the image. Particularly in the shadows.

I really like the render of the building quite a bit! I actually connect with it strongly because it reminds me of the stuff I used to design in UnrealEd back in the day. Sigh.

Magi Nov 12, 2007 11:12 PM

The building is interesting, I gotta do a fly through one of those days. Radiosity take too long to render though. UnrealEd eh? Man, It would be fun to create interesting envirment to explore. -w-
Spoiler:

Some experimental method, I haven't "speed paint" for a while. Around 20

also a little update on the buildings.

Hey thanks. :3 I am actually not particularly good at coloring. <.<, I am still working on it, there are people that I really likes in terms of coloring style that I am trying to emulate.
Practice, mainly from the photo reference dub tutorial book "portraiture" (It was a Japanese publication), I have had it quite a few years. There are a lot portrait photo in that book, pretty good for this purpose.

Ruby... Just doodle.

The solar array controls... This doesn't actually show up in the render that much, but I am thinking about putting in some additional details in it.

Here are the renderings. The Blender's internal Ambient Occlusion rendering...
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...minutes_25.jpg
and Yafray.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2..._39minutes.jpg
I added some stuff when I was working on the Yafray. Note that it doesn't have the grainy quality of the Ambient Occlusion, which I liked, however, it creates lights in much better fidelity, of course, the down side of that is time.
Although time consuming, its also very possible to make pretty good rendering with Ambient Occlusions.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...broom_wip4.jpg
Although I still haven't being able to reproduce the effect of "light through transparency", not even caustics, I still have a lot to learn.

I probably should rely less on the use of raytrace reflection on those images, its beginning to feel gimmicky, heh. I just found out how to use "array" modifiers on Blender.

Nice sketch style. Keep up the good work. ^_^ I think that variety is neat, and showing both sides to the style makes it intriguing. : )

I like your sketches. mine are way inferior and more like doodles. I like the hat with the eye

Dark Jan 14, 2008 01:11 AM

Very, very impressive. I would hope that you are posting at more serious art sites in addition to this place, as it seems constructive criticism is very scarce here; not that you need it. You do seem to take pride in improvement and also seem very serious with what you do.

One word to sum it all up.. awesome. Hope to see your mark somewhere like on a video game or something mass-produced one day. You know, the whole "I met a celebrity online" deal. ;p

Magi Jan 14, 2008 07:21 PM

Hey thanks. I am not sure how "serious" the type of art forum you are thinking off, but I do post in some professional forum such as Concept-arts on occasions. Although my prospect is currently pretty dim at the moment.

Some New sketches.

it's too bad the creators cafe has lost so much interaction since the olden days otherwise you'd be getting many stars for your awesome art. I especially like your armored characters.
I also cought your video of the lucky star art you did in open canvas. very awesome work

Magi Mar 4, 2008 09:16 PM

Hey thanks. O.o althoughI don't think I actually uploaded any of my lucky star character drawings to youtube though. Its probably someone else.
