College Internet Speed Issues
I'm currently in a college dorm and here are my results from speedtest.net:
While downloading a file: http://www.speedtest.net/result/193769546.png While idle: http://www.speedtest.net/result/193773351.png I think everyone is taking up the bandwidth with file sharing programs, etc. Is there any way I can get around this horrendous download speed issue? I'm downloading files at around 20 KB/ Sec. |
Wow, nice upload.
|
Can I have your upload?
|
Depends. They might be throttling you, which nothing can be really done. Or they might packet shape, which means nothing can be done.
With that upload, you are a leecher's delight. Start seeding some torrents that I'm downloading please. |
You get 20kbps? Wow, I feel happy for you. We are lucky to get 3.5kbps where I'm at.
Here's my idle speed at almost the best time of the day, in the morning when nobody is using it: http://www.speedtest.net/result/193855215.png Should make you a bit more thankful for what you have :). We play WOW with pings of >1000. Sometimes >2000! |
You can try to get around it by downloading when other people aren't using the internet. Try getting up at 6 AM and see how your speeds are.
|
My main issue with it is that I just can't stream any videos, which is really annoying.
|
You could try using multiple connections if you're doing regular downloading, which DownThemAll is a nice tool for :).
|
I use Internet Explorer. I used to use Firefox, but I think that IE causes less hassle. But the multiple connections was kind of what I was thinking of.
