So how do you communicate with Turkey?
 

So I'm inn this class where me and 3 Turkish kids need to learn French. I speak English, they speak turk. I became their friends somehow and now they want to hang out and go dancing and shit, great. Problem is, I can't speak Turkish, they can't speak English. Does anyone have any advice on how to interact with people who don't speak your language?

And is there anything out there I might be able to download to my laptop to bring with me and translate? Like a free online translation program....that I can bring offline?

Use sign language, or gestures. Hanging around people that do not speak your language is a frustrating event.

I would use a search engine to find some soft of translator.

Well they asked me....he pointed at himself and the other Turkish kids, then me, then said "discotheque?"...i went....qui and smiled, then he smiled.

Everyone laughs the same. Seriously jsut spend all evening laughing, they'll think you're tops. You'll pickup Turkish over time.

I remember one of my professors telling his class about a time he was in Turkey.

Just a heads up. The OK sign you make with your fingers doesn't mean the same thing in Turkey. It roughly translates to "I want to go to a gay leather bar."

That's weird situation, but if I were you, I will bring my laptop everywhere and talk to them with any available online translator 8D

When we were over in Italy, my latin teacher was chatting up some Italian teens on a ferry to Capri. She was speaking latin, very slowly. They were speaking Italian, very slowly. Somehow everyone was friendly, and understood each other, slightly.

Common languages, even if you suck at them. Like Lehah said, it's obvious.
