Video Card Driver Issue.
 

Okay, here's the deal. it's definitely a tl;dr... but bear with me.

I built this computer a month ago or so, and... it's already having problems.

After some troubleshooting, I tracked the problem to my video card. (NVIDIA Geforce 8600GT)

The problem is, I can't install the driver for the card, because when I do the entire computer crashes pretty much. During installation, the screen will turn blank for a split second, then display all these colours with a blinking cursor (like cmd) in the top left corner. After about 10 seconds of displaying that, the screen goes black, and nothing happens.

When I manually reset the computer, it immediately shows that there's something wrong with the video card, blue lines EVERYWHERE. When it gets to the XP boot screen, the blue lines just... over-ride everything, and then eventually it just gets stuck at boot up.

The problem is fixable (if you can call it that) by going through Safe Mode and deleting the driver from the computer. After that, XP boots fine... just driver-less.

Anyone else ever hear or have had this problem? I can't really seem to find anything like this on other forums... any idea?

Are you using the official nVIDIA drivers? If you are... it's strange that that's happening, but there's one thing I could suggest:

Try out the DNA or the OMEGA custom drivers for your card. I use DNA for my ATI card, and I find it's way better than the proprietary drivers. You might want to try them out and see if they're any better.
